Beats remain the same for the Lakers in kick
The Prior Lake dance team finished in the same spot in the second South Suburban Conference high kick meet Dec. 11 in Rosemount.
The Lakers were third behind the same two teams from the first kick competition, Eastview and Lakeville North, while Lakeville South and Burnsville were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Eastview finished with four ranking points, followed by Lakeville North (5.5), the Lakers (9), Lakeville South (12), Burnsville (16), Apple Valley (19), Farmington (19.5), Eagan (23.5), Shakopee (28) and Rosemount (29).
Prior Lake will compete in the SSC Championships Dec. 15 at Lakeville South at 11 a.m. Both high kick and jazz dances will be performed.
The Lakers also competed in the Eastview Invitational Dec. 8, which featured many of the state’s top programs in jazz and high kick. Prior Lake finished sixth out of 15 teams in jazz with 19.5 ranking points.
The host Lightning won (3), followed by Edina (6), Wayzata (8), Maple Grove (12) and Eden Prairie (19).
In high kick, the Lakers were fourth with 13.5 ranking points. Wayzata was first (3), followed by Eastview (6) and Maple Grove (10). Edina was fifth (15.5), while Chaska was sixth (16.5).
The Section 1AAA meet is set for Feb. 9 at Bloomington Kennedy High School. The Lakers will compete in the Lakeville South Invitational Jan. 5, the Wayzata Invitational Jan. 19 and the Eastview Showcase Jan. 26 to prepare for sections.
Prior Lake was sixth in both jazz and high kick at the Class AAA state meet last season. The team has qualified six straight years in jazz.
The top-three teams from Section 1AAA in both dances make the state field. Prior Lake was third in both dances last year at sections.
