Florida State

It’s an absolute joke that the Florida State Seminoles that went undefeated this season were not chosen for the college football playoffs. The Alabama Crimson Tide who lost to Texas were chosen because, well let’s be honest the TV networks pressured the selection committee to choose Alabama because they are historically a much better known team than Florida State University. If there is a football god out there let’s hope Michigan crushes Alabama. College football fans deserve to see the best teams in the playoffs based on results not based on hidden agendas by the NCAA and the TV networks.

College playoffs

Finally, starting in 2024 there will be a competitive 12-team structure in college football payoffs. Recognizing Florida State undefeated 13-0 season and putting in 2 teams that had one loss is just not right. I understand it’s a tough decision picking the final 4 to play for NCAA Football Championship but wouldn’t Florida State have needed to be picked?

Heroic action

A recent column in this newspaper (“Lucas: Courage lives on in Ukraine,” Dec. 1) highlighted the heroic actions of Fox reporter Benjamin Hall covering the war in Ukraine.

A vehicle he was in came under drone attack; killing two of his associates and severely injuring Hall. Two Ukrainians were also killed in the strike. Hall was the lone survivor.

As a result of his injuries, Hall had to endure 30 surgeries, culminating in the amputation of his right leg and left foot. He also lost use of his left hand and sight in his left eye.

Subsequently, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy awarded him the Ukrainian Order of Merit.

This entire event, was apparently under the radar of President Biden. No recognition was forthcoming from the Biden administration.

Now, I wonder what the outcome might have been if that unfortunate situation had happened to a member of the liberal press? What recognition might have been forthcoming in that case? An award of the Medal of Freedom to him, perhaps? A White House reception in his honor? Some lesser acknowledgment, at least?

Benjamin Hall returned to Ukraine after recovering from those very severe injuries. Solidifying beyond a doubt the integrity of his character.

President Biden’s non-response to this entire incident, alas, is also a  reflection of his character.

Basic income

The Wu Administration exploring the idea of providing basic income (cash) to low-income families is reflective of this observation by George Bernard Shaw – “A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.”
