Porsche Expands Taycan Lineup – GTS Gets 690 Electrified Horses

The 2025 Porsche Taycan lineup is back with more power, updated features, and new trims, marking a mid-cycle refresh for the luxury electric sedan and wagon duo. Leading the charge, quite literally, is the Taycan GTS, now offering an electrified punch of 690 horsepower with the overboost function engaged. This refresh has brought significant performance boosts and enhancements across the Taycan range. Let’s dive into what’s new.

Power Surge with up to 690 Electrified Horses

The 2025 Taycan GTS has emerged as a standout performer in the updated lineup. With the standard Sport Chrono package, drivers can unleash a “push-to-pass” function that temporarily boosts horsepower to a staggering 690 hp, a full 100-hp increase over its predecessor. This brief surge, available with a button press, adds 93 hp for ten seconds, perfect for overtaking or quick acceleration thrills.

With the extra power, the Taycan GTS has shaved off 0.4 seconds from its 0-60 mph sprint, clocking in at an impressive 3.1 seconds for both the sedan and the more spacious Sport Turismo wagon. For those focused on straight-line speed, the Taycan GTS sedan can now blast through the quarter mile in 11.1 seconds, a 0.7-second improvement over last year. While the Taycan may lack the visceral roar of Porsche’s gas-powered models, the Electric Sport Sound feature, borrowed from the Turbo S, adds a distinctive, high-energy soundtrack to the driving experience.

For enthusiasts eager to get behind the wheel, Porsche has set the starting price at $149,895 for the GTS sedan and $151,795 for the Sport Turismo. The price hike reflects the high-performance gains but brings these models in nearly $9,000 above last year’s prices.

The 2025 Taycan 4

The Taycan 4 sedan, previously only available in the Cross Turismo variant, now joins the standard sedan lineup. This all-wheel-drive model provides a more accessible entry point for those seeking Taycan’s all-weather versatility. It offers 402 horsepower with the standard battery pack, jumping to 429 horsepower with the larger battery upgrade. It’s quick off the line, hitting 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, a slight improvement over the base rear-wheel-drive model.

Designed for efficiency, the Taycan 4 operates in rear-wheel-drive mode under certain conditions, decoupling the front motor when it’s not needed to reduce power consumption. When more traction or acceleration is needed, the front motor re-engages within milliseconds. The Taycan 4 sedan also comes with adaptive air suspension, matrix LED headlights, and a 10-speaker sound system as standard features, ensuring a refined driving experience with the performance to match.

The Taycan 4 sedan starts at $105,295, offering all-wheel drive at a slightly lower price than the GTS models while still delivering solid performance and high-end features.

For 2025, Porsche has expanded its color palette for the Taycan, adding Slate Grey Neo, Pale Blue, and Purple Sky. These striking colors offer buyers more options to personalize their EV and enhance the Taycan’s sleek design with unique hues.

The Taycan lineup has grown to include 13 distinct versions, each catering to a slightly different type of performance or luxury preference. At the top, the Turbo GT variant remains the ultimate Taycan, with a fully loaded model reaching an eye-watering $286,845. Even the base rear-wheel-drive Taycan sedan starts in the six-figure range at $101,395, underscoring Porsche’s premium approach to electric performance.

Sales Challenges and Competition

Porsche’s ambitious pricing and complex lineup come amid a challenging year for Taycan sales. Global deliveries of the Taycan fell by 50% in the first nine months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, with Porsche reporting only 14,042 units sold. The company attributes this decline to decreased demand in China and the ongoing transition to the facelifted 2025 model.

Despite these hurdles, Porsche continues to refine and expand the Taycan lineup, aiming to meet the expectations of luxury EV buyers who value Porsche’s iconic blend of performance and refinement. With the mid-cycle updates, Porsche is banking on refreshed designs, increased power, and enhanced customization options to reignite interest in its flagship electric sedan and wagon.
