In honor of Halloween, we are featuring two black cats!
First, here is Nixie with a pal.
Pusheen and Nixie.
“Here’s a picture of Pusheen and Nixie, carefully ignoring each other,” Jeanne writes. “Pusheen is a very cute cartoon cat who likes to snack, sleep, dress up and hang out with her friends and family. She appears on the website, in calendars and on various products such as clothing, pillows and much more (not a commercial. I’m not getting paid). Nixie is an older black cat who likes snoozing, watching birds and squirrels, eating, snuggling and bouncing off the furniture.”
Today’s second black cat is Mies.
Mies
“You’ve featured our lovable Mies (age 12) before,” Lori writes, “but if you’d like to feature him again, you’ll find him here adoring his pumpkin in preparation for once again being the cutest black cat ever on Halloween!”
Nixie and Mies (and Pusheen) are all the cutest, aren’t they?
Happy Halloween!

“This is Bluebelle,” Julie writes. “A recent addition to the family after a friend had to go into a senior living facility, she is a Bourke parakeet. She is normal in coloring but they come in other colors too (a pink color called rosy).
Bluebelle
“They make great apartment birds being quieter than a normal parakeet,” Julie continues. “They are also considered semi-nocturnal, being most active in the morning and the evening which can be great for a working person.
“If you can, find a hand-raised Bourke, they make the sweetest pet,” Julie advises. “Bluebelle joins her brother ‘Henry Cabot Henhouse III,’ who was featured here in August (pictured below).”:

“Here’s our brother and sister cats, Oliver and Tinkerbell,” Tracie writes. “They are 7-year-old Tonkinese. Most of the time they like each other and share a heated bed, the rest of the time, Tinkerbell growls at her brother, Oliver. They like to be in our business and like our laps. They definitely keep us entertained. I love reading about the daily animals.”

Cuddling up by the fireplace, just in time for the cold(er) weather — good choice, Tallulah!

“Meet my brother’s kitten GiGi!” Emily writes. “She’s just a peanut and has lots of energy to run around and play with anything that moves, especially fingers. My cat has gotten to meet her but is very hesitant of her. I’m hoping the two of them will eventually get along!”

“I see a cat’s ear in the Daily Doggo photo of Dewey,” Elaine wrote to the Morning Report on Sept. 27. “What’s the back story of this pet? Inquiring minds want to know (I’m a cat person).”
On behalf of Elaine — who says she’s been reading the Pioneer Press since Lassie was a puppy — we reached out to Dewey’s person about that mystery cat (pictured below, left).
Dewey
“That is Linkin Bark,” Lee explained. “We just had to say goodbye to him about a month ago, he was 20-1/2 years old. In the picture, he was sleeping on his heating pad, which was on 24/7 for at least the past five years.
Linkin Bark
“Link was also a rescue of sorts, the kitten of a stray, we had him since he was 6 weeks old. He really thought he was a dog! He was raised by two toy poodles who died a month apart when they were just shy of 15 years old, named Napoleon Bonaparte and Polly Bunyan (big names for small dogs lol). Nappy was a pup of champion parents, the only one in his litter allowed to be a pet, Polly was a rescue.
“When Nappy and Polly passed, Link became very depressed and seriously ill. He came out of it, eventually.
“Please feel free to share the story and these photos.”
Dewey and Linkin Bark
We’re glad that Link had Dewey as a new friend in his final months. Elaine, thanks for asking about that mystery cat!
Rest in peace, Link.

“My husband and I returned to Minnesota after working out east for several years,” Caroline writes. “We celebrated coming back to Minnesota with a bottle of Valpolicella Ripasso. Just as we were about to make a toast, our Persian cat Annabelle jumped up on the table, wanting to partake in the festivities!”

“Here are photos of the RetroCats, our two 8-year-old cats from Feline Rescue, ” writes Daniel of Minneapolis. “Toby, the orange one, is very sociable, while Eddie, a black Maine Coon cat, is slowly coming out of his shell. We have tried everything we can think of to keep them off the table. Nothing works!”
Toby
Why are Toby and Eddie called the RetroCats?
Eddie
“Because their names are kind of classic 1950s throwbacks, mostly, ” Daniel replied. “Also, in terms of personality, they’re reminiscent of our last cats: Mr. Jake was eager to see who was at the door and The Boo hid from everyone.”

“This is Chito,” Donna writes. “He is part Chihuahua and part Pug. He was found by our friends in South Texas, on top of a tall fence where he could not get down. He was malnourished, losing his hair and dehydrated. Our friends found him, took him home and brought him back to health.
Chito
“When we went to visit them, this little guy was such a joy to watch and play with. He sat by me the whole time. At the dinner table he stayed by my feet. I became so attached to him right away. My husband asked his friend if we could take him home. I thought he was just kidding. His friend said ‘Yes, take him. We’ve been trying to find someone to take him,’ being that they already had five dogs. We gladly brought him home with us the next day.
He loved the car ride back to Minnesota. When we got home there was snow on the ground and he dived right in making little tunnels. He has been with us for almost two years now and he is well loved and taken care of by all who meet him. He loves his other canine families.”

“These are two special kiddos that found love and each other,” writes Kerry D’Amato, executive director of Pet Haven MN. “Rooster on the left has a spinal cord injury and has trouble walking. Dani was found in a dumpster, injured and unable to eat. They are in full recovery and its due to finding each other and the power of love!”
Rooster and Dani.
Will they be available for adoption?
“They will!,” Kerry replied. “But probably not for a couple weeks. They need to finish vaccinations and get neutered. But people can still put in applications for them.”

“This is Miles and Coltrane,” write Kimberley and Jason from Minneapolis. “Coltrane (Tuxedo) was a stray and had fleas, patchy fur, intestinal issues, and torn ears. He came with a great personality and a natural affinity for people. He now has a shiny coat, a healthy appetite, plenty of toys and a little brother, Miles Davis. Miles is two years old and has an obsession with shoe laces, sweatshirt strings, counter tops and his brother, Coltrane.
Miles and Coltrane
“We got Coltrane from the Humane Society in Coon Rapids. Coltrane has been with us since 2021. We got Miles Davis from the Bitty Kitty Brigade foster program a little over a year and a half ago.
“They connected immediately.”

“This is my niece and her family’s new love bug, EllieB,” writes MaryPav of Stillwater. “Our great-niece, age 10, wanted a female to name Ellie and our great-nephew, age seven, wanted a male to name Bauer (hockey stick brand.). So EllieB, a beautiful English Lab female, is her name and she is so cute, snuggly and smart. Such a cute adorable face! Irresistible!”

We featured a lot of dogs in September, so let’s begin October with a cat!
Meet Mitzi of Roseville.
Mitzi
Steve and Candace describe Mitzi:
“A long-haired Calico, polydactyl, cross between Norwegian Forest Cat and…?? ” they wrote in an email. “Seven years old. Fifteen pounds of ‘purr machine.’ Loves to sit on our laps and chatter at the birds coming to our feeders. Also hunts bugs; can swat a fly out of the air. A real calming presence in our lives.”
