BASKETBALL
The MIAA Basketball committee meeting Tuesday morning and one thing was made abundantly clear – they have no appetite for a Super 8 tournament in the future. The committee voted 15-1 against moving forward with the notion of having a Super 8.

Tournament chairman Jeff Newhall told the Herald three of his concerns was that if they removed the top eight teams from the field, it would water down the feeling of winning a state title in one of the five divisions. He also felt if the top eight were picked solely by power ratings, they might not be necessarily getting the premier eight squads and a single-elimination Super 8 tournament (to stay consistent with the other tournament) wasn’t appealing to him.

The committee also voted 13-3 to recommend to the TMC that five divisions were working and keep it as such moving forward. They also announced that the state finals would be held on the weekend of March 14-16 at the Tsongas Center in Lowell.
