Jim Montgomery shakes up Bruins’ lines

Not surprisingly given recent results, Bruins coach Jim Montgomery is shaking up his top nine forward group for Tuesday night’s game against the winless Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena.

After the B’s managed just one goal against the Utah Hockey Club in the 2-1 overtime loss on Saturday, Montgomery loaded up his top line, putting Brad Marchand with Elias Lindholm and David Pastrnak. Pavel Zacha was dropped to a line with Matt Poitras and Morgan Geekie while Max Jones drew back into the lineup to play with Charlie Coyle and Trent Frederic. Justin Brazeau and Riley Tufte are the scratches.

The B’s top players have not been on their game. Marchand is still looking for his first goal of the season while Pastrnak has been limited to two shots on net in three of the last four games.

“Trying to generate some chemistry,” Montgomery told reporters in Nashville. “It’s been inconsistent for six games and we’re just looking at different ways to support certain players, get other players on their toes and you just hope these line combinations will create more offense and more success for us.”

Better pace is needed throughout the lineup.

“I want to see them pressuring pucks more,” said Montgomery. “When we’re at our best, we’re causing turnovers in all three zones. Last game, we did that in the D zone but we didn’t do it in the other two zones. So we just need to be ready to skate and work.”

Jones is a player B’s management was high on when the club signed the former Anaheim Duck in the offseason, but he suffered a groin injury in September and missed almost all of training camp. Montgomery thinks he’s been rounding into form the last couple of practices.

“He’s an elite skater in this league and this morning that was very evident,” said Montgomery. “I think that’s just him getting ore comfortable with how we play and knowing when it’s time to go and when to backcheck.”

Puck drop is scheduled for 8:45 pm.
