What would your top priorities be if elected?

My top priority is clean air for everyone, as well as continued economic development. I also hope we can build on the success of last session to ensure all our neighbors have access to safe and secure housing. For kids across Minnesota, it’s access to a foundational computer science education so that all of our kids are prepared for a 21st century economy, and so that our local companies have a sustainable workforce.

What qualifies you to hold this position?

I’m incredibly proud that I was so successful in securing investments for the Eastside during my first term as the representative for District 67A. This is largely due to my decade working in Congress advancing legislation for various Members (including some in the MN delegation).

What do you think is the primary role of government?

Policymakers are only doing a good job if we improve the lives of constituents and fight for equitable economic development for all Minnesota families. This means: having a living wage; access to affordable housing; students going to better schools; and families thriving because we have health equity, and clean air and water for future generations.

How do you work to understand, and then learn from, opinions that differ from your own and people who disagree with you?

As a legislator, I do this everyday. Part of this means ensuring that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle get all the facts right. I do that by asking our nonpartisan staff to share their knowledge publicly during hearings so that both they and the public can hear. Too often we are not living in a shared reality so one of my goals is to ensure that folks do not lose their trust in government and core institutions.
