Here are the pets we featured in the Morning Report in September

From Dewey the dog to a cat called Max, we featured 16 of our readers’ pets in our morning newsletter in September.

The pet corner is how we sign off the Morning Report on weekdays and our readers seem to enjoy it. Comments include this one from a regular reader:

“I just can’t handle all the warm emotions I feel each day that I see your Daily Doggos and Cat photos and stories! In this world of (too much) chaos and sadness we’re living in, it brings me love, joy, happiness and smiles. Everything GOOD! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!”

Stella

When we featured Stella recently, we somehow forgot to run our favorite photo of her in this hat.

We thought it would make you smile on a Monday morning.

Friday, Sept. 27

“Perhaps, as septuagenarians, we’re too old to take on a rambunctious pup, but Dewey is worth his weight in gold because he makes us laugh every day!” write Lee and Jim.

Dewey

“Dewey is a rescue Terrier mix, rescued out of Kentucky by The Bond Between, seemingly mostly a rough-coated Jack Russell, going by his appearance and personality (lol). He’s seven months old and we have had him for five months. He’s so smart, he immediately learned how to play fetch, knows lots of commands, loves to play, but also cuddle. He has taken over our home and our hearts. He is a wonderful addition to our retirement!”

Thursday, Sept. 26

“This is Bella, a 13-year-old Tortie who loves the deck while cooling off,” Debbie writes.

Sadie

“You have met our Havanese, Sadie, through the years,” Linda writes. “I just wanted to share one of her favorite things to do in the summer: This photo shows her on our pontoon enjoying the ride.”

Tuesday, Sept. 24

Oreo

“Three years ago we adopted Oreo from Heading Home K9 Rescue, ” Kara writes. “She was heartworm positive, filled with parasites and recovering from a chronic flea infestation.

“It took several months, but she came through and now loves to be on the alert for extra treats in the kitchen or curled up in whatever comfy spot she comes across. We love her and are blessed to have her.”

Monday, Sept. 23

Mac

“Here is Mac, our wonderful Golden Retriever, enjoying the last of our summer nights! ” wrote Ellen on Sept. 16. “This was taken on Lake Holcombe, Wis., this past weekend. He is loving the extended summer weather — perfect for a boat ride and swim.

“Thanks for all the pet photos. Love this section!”

Friday, Sept. 20

On Thursday, we featured photos of a dog named Stella. Deborah replied with a few photos of her own dog, Jude.

“I am sending these pictures since the Daily Doggo today, Stella, seems like Jude is her doppelganger,” Deborah wrote.

Do you agree? Stella is on the left and Jude is on the right.

Stella and Jude.

Here’s more about Jude:

“Jude was found under a shed at the age of 8-10 weeks, ” Deborah writes. “He is now four and thriving. He is called ‘The Wild One’ when he is outside enjoying running around, gathering sticks and watching the rabbits, birds and other wildlife. When he is not watching these creatures, he can be found watching over the other rescue in our home, Jazz, who was rescued more than 12 years ago. Now that Jazz’s eyesight and hearing are failing, Jude has become her helper.

“Thanks for the joy you bring every morning with your pet pictures and stories.”

Thursday, Sept. 19

Stella

“This is Stella, aka Meefee, The Meefee Queen, The Peach Queen, The Dainty Trotter, Bat Ears Cutie and probably a dozen other nicknames I’m forgetting,” Matthew writes.

“Stella is a 12-year-old Terrier-Cattle Dog mix we adopted in Chicago a decade ago. She now lives in Stillwater, where she divides her time between the bed, the couch and lapping up ice cream spills off the patio at Nelson’s.

“Stella/Meefee is also the subject of a vast and constantly expanding catalog of ‘Meefee Songs’ — popular songs that have had the lyrics changed to be about Meefee and Meefeeness in general. For example, take Strawberry Alarm Clock’s ‘Incense and Peppermints’ and change the lyrics to: Incense, peppermints, Meefee’s a queen. Now do the same thing for every other song you’ve ever heard. Congratulations! Now you’re living our life.”

Wednesday, Sept. 18

Oakley

“This is Oakley, my daughter’s 3-year-old Golden, trying really hard to do his best E.T.,” Edla writes. “Thank you for posting all these great pets. Best part of my day!”

Tuesday, Sept. 17

Miss Nosey

“Here’s a silly pic of our Miss Nosey, paws pressed against the screen as she ‘waves’ to me while I’m on my daily walk-a-bout around our yard, ” Joyce writes. “I’m sure she’d LOVE to be outside too!”

Monday, Sept. 16

Rowdy

“This is Rowdy, my grandpup and reliable early morning walking partner,” writes Judy of White Bear Lake. “He was featured a few years ago not long after he was rescued by Second Hand Hounds (now The Bond Between). He was living on the streets in a small town in Texas. Now estimated to be around three years old, his family describes him as ‘the best and laziest’ dog ever. He is a constant companion to his 8- and 10-year-old human brothers. He couldn’t be loved more!”

Friday, Sept. 13

Pico and Lambie.

“Here’s an update for Pico, seen here with his favorite toy (as of now), Lambie,” Shari writes. “Pico was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in January, but he is doing well thanks to the wonderful treatment he gets from Dr. Heidi at Skadron Animal Hospital. He is 13 now but acts like he’s four. I treasure every day I have with him.”

Thursday, Sept. 12

Rizzini

“Introducing our new Spinoni Italiano, Rizzini, aka Rizz, Rizzi, Rizzo, Rizzler, we are still working out the nickname … ” wrote Kate in an email to the Morning Report in Aug.. “She is all goofball and sharp teeth at 9 weeks old. We couldn’t be any more in love.”

Wednesday, Sept. 11

Theo

“Theo loved cheering on his Vikes,” writes Favorite Aunt JuJu. “Sometimes he even barks louder than his Grandma MK yells.”

(Theo is the new Lil’ Kirk in Chains!)

Tuesday, Sept. 10

Max

“I went up to my sister’s cabin again this summer,” Linda writes. “Max was not happy.”

Monday, Sept. 9

Thanks to Phil and Barb Anderson for responding to our latest reader challenge — sending us a photo of their pet watching the Vikings game on Sunday!

If you ever watched “WKRP in Cincinnati,” you’ll appreciate this post:

Loni Anderson watches the game.

“Here’s our Aussiedoodle, Loni Anderson, who rescued us two years ago, watching the Vikings game with me,” writes Phil. “She rescued us (Phil and Barb Anderson) when we visited the Humane Society. “P.S. We’re going to name a boy dog Louie.”

Friday, Sept. 6

Sushi

“In honor of the Vikings season starting up, I have a couple pictures of Sushi (tuxedo) and Dempsey (orange/white) supporting their favorite football team,” Sean writes. “Skol Vikings!”

Dempsey and Sushi.

Thursday, Sept. 5

Virgil

“Here’s our sweet Goldendoodle, Virgil, doing what he does best — frolicking in Lake Superior and sleeping in his favorite chair,” Lisa writes.

Wednesday, Sept. 4

“Here are several photos of our cat, Benson, whom we adopted as a kitten in 2020,” writes Diane of Shoreview.

Benson

“He loves bananas, his frothy milk treat every morning when I make a latte and his best friend Murphy, our 10-year-old rescue.

Benson and Murphy.

“Pictures include Benson in our tree his first Christmas (no decorations that year!), a few with Murphy and Benson just posing because he knows how handsome he is. Too many photos, I know, but I just couldn’t choose!”

Benson through the years.

Tuesday, Sept. 3

Zoey

“This is Zoey,” wrote Jen of St. Paul’s Como neighborhood in an email to the Morning Report recently. “She’s a 12-year-old Golden Retriever, with a vast tennis ball collection that she uses for a daily game of fetch in the backyard and also as a buddy to accompany her on any trip outside. She religiously brings them back into the house, for fear that one may get lost! The photo is of her taking a break during said game of fetch.

“She is our first family dog, my first dog ever (and I’m 58!) so I have no basis for comparison, but others are amazed at her gentle nature and overall calm, as evidenced by napping through a thunderstorm last night!”
