BB&N, Bo MacCormack run past St. Sebastian’s, 29-14

NEEDHAM – Coupled with a pair of timely stops on defense, senior captain Bo MacCormack ran wild on a tough St. Sebastian’s squad Friday night for Buckingham Browne & Nichols.

MacCormack totaled 234 yards on 34 carries while rushing for a hat trick as the Knights took down the Arrows on the road 29-14 in an ISL-7 tilt.

“St. Sebastian’s is a really good football team,” said BB&N coach Mike Willey. “Coach (Dan) Burke does a great job over there. It took all of our guys to get it done. I’m very proud of that defense. They were great. They were great the whole game.”

To start the third, St. Sebastian’s (2-3) opened up with a 13-play, 86-yard drive that was capped by a four-yard keeper for senior Ty Ciongoli to cut the deficit to 22-14.

BB&N (5-0) answered right back as MacCormack sprung free for a 44-yard rushing score for his third score just two plays later to push the lead out to 29-15 with 4:53 to go in the third.

From there the Knights’ defense picked it up and forced a punt before a turnover on downs with the Arrows driving with three minutes left sealed the victory.

“Those guys can fight,” MacCormack said about the defensive stops. “That’s what we do. I’m proud of those guys. They played a good game.”

In the first half, MacCormack carried BB&N as he rushed 21 times for two scores, 144 yards and a two-point conversion rush while catching a pass for 21 yards.

MacCormack’s first came from 14 yards out as junior Damon Taylor connected on three straight passes after the Knights only rushed the ball their previous drive to push the lead out to 14-0.

His second came with just over two minutes left in the first half as he was able to convert on 4th-and-goal from the one. He would rush in the two-point conversion to make it 22-7.

“(MacCormack) is a great player,” Willey said. “He’s the toughest dude on our team and the toughest dude I’ve ever coached. He is tremendous and you saw that tonight. He would not be denied.”

St. Sebastian’s didn’t settle and drove down to the BB&N five before three straight incompletions and an interception for Knights’ senior AJ Azuakolam with 27 seconds to go in the second.

The Arrows’ first-half score came on a two-yard run for senior captain Justin Bourque that was setup by a 60-yard reception for senior Kaelan Chudzinski.

Taylor also had a rushing score on the first possession for the Knights as he carried it in from a yard out to make it 7-0 with 5:31 left in the first.

BB&N will head to Governor’s Academy next Saturday at 3:30 p.m. while St. Sebastian’s will play at Roxbury Latin next Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
