High School Football Roundup: Chaska edges St. Thomas Academy with game-winning field goal

Chaska 24, St. Thomas Academy 21: St. Thomas Academy (5-3) led 14-0 at the half and 21-14 in the fourth quarter, but the Hawks (4-4) scored the game’s final 10 points, including a 42-yard field goal from Quinn Meyer to win the game at the end of regulation.

Matthew Welter threw for a score and ran in another for Chaska.

Highland Park 17, Central 14: The Scots (4-4) picked up a key road victory in the classic rivalry contest to finish the regular season at .500 and likely nab a first-round home playoff game.

Johnson 44, Minneapolis South 16: Dae’Majeun Hendereson-Moore ran in a pair of touchdowns while also connecting with Justice Moody for a 15-yard scoring strike for Johnson (3-4), who also got a two rushing touchdowns from Colin Moore.

Cretin-Derham Hall 34, Irondale 7: All 41 points in this game were scored in the first half, with Jaydn Harris and Tommy Sticha each running in two touchdowns for the Raiders (4-4). Cretin-Derham Hall should be the top seed in the Class 5A, Section 4 bracket this week.

Mahtomedi 21, Spring Lake Park 14: The Zephyrs (2-6) will ride into the Class 5A playoffs with a touch of momentum after rallying from a 14-7 halftime deficit Wednesday.

All three Mahtomedi touchdowns came on scoring strikes from Connor Finn to Joey Pipes of 72, 65 and 21 yards.

Nolan Roach had two touchdown runs for the Panthers (3-5).
