Gophers defense appears healthier to play UCLA on Saturday

The health of the Gophers’ defense appears to have improved after Minnesota’s 24-17 win over Southern California last weekend.

Defensive tackles Deven Eastern and Jalen Logan-Redding were not named on the Gophers’ unavailable list two hours before Saturday’s game against UCLA at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, Calif. Their absences from the Big Ten’s report indicates they are available to play Saturday.

Logan-Redding was listed as questionable last week, and with a knee brace on, he played only 20 snaps against the Trojans. Eastern left the upset win after only 18 snaps.

The defense, however, will be without linebacker Maverick Baranowski for a second straight game and safety Kerry Brown, who was injured while making a tackle early against the Trojans.

Tight end Pierce Walsh will miss his seventh straight game.
