Dorchester barbershop murder: Man arrested in connection to fatal Labor Day shooting

After more than a month on the run, the suspect wanted in connection to the gruesome Labor Day murder at a Dorchester barbershop has been arrested.

Authorities apprehended Diamond Jose Brito, 32, of Canton, around 7 p.m. Thursday in Mattapan, the Boston Police Department said in a release early Friday morning.

Brito allegedly shot and killed Elijah Ricardo Clunie, 20, of Dorchester, and was “wanted on several warrants issued out of Dorchester District Court,” for the murder, Boston Police said.

The Boston Police Fugitive Unit, Massachusetts State Police VFAS Unit, and United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force took Brito into custody in the area 10 Temple St., in Mattapan.

Brito is expected to be arraigned today in Dorchester District Court.

A video that went viral on social media showed the graphic aftermath of the murder scene at the Exclusive Barbershop on Washington Street in Dorchester.

The less than minute-long clip showed the victim dead in the barber chair and another victim shot, bleeding on the floor.

BPD responded to the scene at about 12:55 p.m. on Sept. 2.

The video starts on the street, and the person recording the scene walks right inside, pointing the cell phone camera at the two victims before leaving the shop as fast as he entered it. The footage pauses momentarily for a chilling close-up of the man dead in the barber chair.

“We’ve got you. Take some deep breaths,” a single officer is quickly seen saying in the video as he attended to the injured man and put on purple surgical gloves. That victim was seen bleeding from the side of his head, talking on a cell phone.

Both victims were rushed to the hospital, with medical personnel pronouncing Clunie dead. The second victim, whose identity will be not released, per the BPD, is expected to survive.
