The Skoda Kodiaq scores its 2nd ever Irish win.

New car sales in Ireland drop a harsh -10.4% year-on-year in September to just 5,130 units, marking a 7th consecutive month of decline. The year-to-date volume is now off -1.4% to 117,256. Strikingly the Top four carmakers all ignore the negative market with double-digit gains or more. Toyota (+41.5%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date with 14.3% share, in line with its YTD level of 14.5%. Volkswagen (+23.5%) also gets back to its usual self at 11.4% share vs. 11.3% YTD. Hyundai (+106.5%) is up to 9.9% share while Skoda (+14.6%), although in positive year-on-year can only muster a 9.2% share vs. 10.2% so far in 2024. Audi (+28.4%) is the only additional Top 10 member in positive just as BMW (-62%), Kia (-54.3%), Tesla (-36.8%), Peugeot (-31.2%) and Ford (-21.8%) all freefall. Lexus (+117.6%), Nissan (+50.7%), BYD (+33.9%) and Volvo (+14.9%) shine further down.

In the brands ranking, the Skoda Kodiaq (+203.1%) surges ahead to repeat at #1 for what is its 2nd ever monthly win in Ireland. The Tesla Model 3 (-4%) is up to #2 but ranks #25 year-to-date. The Hyundai Santa Fe (+371.4%) is up a whopping 100 spots on August to a stellar third place, the new generation seemingly hitting a soft spot with Irish customers. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+258.5%) also posts a stratospheric year-on-year lift at #4 as do the Hyundai Tucson (+171.4%), Toyota RAV4 (+158.8%) and VW Tiguan (+142.1%) below. The Skoda Octavia (+35.3%) is also strong and stays at #5.
