Longtime Twins announcer Dick Bremer given lifetime achievement award
Dick Bremer, the longtime voice of the Twins, will be recognized in January for his dedication and contributions to the organization.
The Twins announced that Bremer, who stepped away from the broadcast booth this offseason, has won the Herb Carneal Lifetime Achievement Award and will be honored at the annual Diamond Awards ceremony.
The award-winning announcer, a St. Paul native who was raised in Dumont, first started calling Twins games in 1983, announcing games for Spectrum Sports for three seasons. After a one-year break, he returned in 1987 and was the Twins’ play-by-play announcer through this season.
Though he is leaving the booth, he will maintain ties with the Twins, staying on as a team ambassador, representing the team at community and fan events.
The Twins also announced that Frank White is the winner of the Terry Ryan Play Ball! Minnesota Award. White ran the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program for 23 years, served as a youth basketball referee and a historian while helping provide opportunities to play sports for underserved youths.
They will be honored alongside Twins players who were previously been announced as award winners at the 19th annual Diamond Awards on Jan. 25 in downtown Minneapolis.
