Dashcams continue to become one of those accessories that we consider nearly essential for driving today. Beyond documenting an accident, a good dashcam can help identify a license plate, monitor your vehicle while parked, or simply provide video evidence when accounts of an incident do not quite match up.

We previously reviewed the Vantrue Nexus N4 Pro and came away impressed with its excellent 4K video quality, straightforward operation, and three-camera coverage. Vantrue has now taken that formula and made several meaningful improvements with the Nexus N4 Pro S.

At first glance, the addition of the letter “S” might sound like a minor refresh. However, better interior and rear cameras, an exterior-mount waterproof rear camera, and optional 4G LTE connectivity make the Pro S a considerably more versatile setup.

Familiar 4K Front Camera Performance

Vantrue wisely did not make major changes where they were not needed.

The front camera continues to use the excellent Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 sensor, recording at up to 4K resolution. HDR processing helps deal with bright headlights, dark streets, shadows, reflective signs, and other difficult lighting conditions.

License plate visibility is also a major focus. Vantrue’s PlatePix technology is designed to help maintain better plate detail in challenging situations.

That matters because there is a big difference between simply having video of an incident and having footage that contains the information you actually need afterward.

Better Interior Camera With Sony STARVIS 2

The interior-facing camera also gets an upgrade on the N4 Pro S with a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX662 sensor.

That brings noticeably better low-light performance while also producing cleaner interior footage during the daytime. For rideshare drivers, commercial users, or anyone wanting another perspective on what happens inside and around the vehicle, it makes the third camera more useful.

The interior camera can also capture some activity through the side windows, adding another perspective beyond the obvious front and rear views.

The 2.5K Waterproof Rear Camera Is the Big Upgrade

For us, the most compelling hardware change is at the rear.

The N4 Pro S uses a 2.5K rear camera with a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor. More resolution and a newer sensor provide better detail, but the biggest improvement is that the rear camera is now IP67 waterproof and can be mounted either inside or outside the vehicle.

That is a major benefit for SUVs and crossovers with heavily tinted factory privacy glass.

Rather than forcing the rear camera to look through dark glass, it can be mounted outside for an unobstructed view. This can make a significant difference at night and in other difficult lighting conditions.

Pickup truck owners may benefit even more. Depending on the cab, rear window, tonneau cover, or other accessories, an interior rear camera may not have an ideal view. The waterproof N4 Pro S camera gives installers much more flexibility when choosing a mounting location.

PlatePix technology works with the rear-camera setup as well, helping capture plate information from behind the vehicle instead of limiting that capability to the front.

Optional 4G LTE Adds Remote Monitoring

Another important distinction between the Nexus N4 Pro S and the older N4 Pro is support for Vantrue’s optional 4G LTE module.

With the module and cellular service active, the camera gains access to Vantrue’s cloud-connected features, including remote viewing and vehicle monitoring.

This becomes particularly useful when the vehicle is parked. If someone hits your vehicle while you are away, or you simply want to see what is happening around it, LTE connectivity gives you remote access that a conventional standalone dashcam cannot provide.

As of September 22, 2026, Vantrue lists the optional 4G LTE module for $149.99. Its U.S. cellular package is currently $9.99 for 2GB of data over 30 days, using Vantrue’s supplied SIM card.

Of course, not everyone needs remote connectivity. The good news is that the N4 Pro S remains fully functional as a conventional dashcam without subscribing to LTE service.

Three Cameras Cover Nearly Everything Around You

The Nexus N4 Pro S records 4K from the front camera, 1080p from the interior camera, and up to 2.5K from the rear camera.

All three cameras now use Sony STARVIS 2 sensors. The system also includes 5GHz Wi-Fi, built-in GPS, voice control, parking monitoring support, and compatibility with microSD cards up to 1TB.

That larger storage capacity can be worthwhile when three high-resolution cameras are continuously recording.

The N4 Pro S also uses a supercapacitor, which we prefer for dashcam applications because it is better suited to the temperature extremes encountered inside a vehicle than a traditional rechargeable battery.

The 3.19-inch display makes the main camera somewhat substantial, so careful placement behind or near the rearview mirror helps keep it out of the driver’s primary field of vision.

Vantrue Nexus N4 Pro S Pricing

As of September 22, 2026, Vantrue lists the Nexus N4 Pro S at a sale price of $339.99 to $359.99, down from its regular $469.99 price. Pricing and promotions can naturally change.

Adding the optional $149.99 LTE module puts the current hardware cost at about $510 before any other accessories, with cellular data service costing extra.

Is the Vantrue Nexus N4 Pro S Worth the Upgrade?

For an existing Nexus N4 Pro owner, the value of upgrading largely comes down to the new rear camera and LTE connectivity.

The excellent 4K front-camera experience remains familiar, but the rest of the system has become more capable. The STARVIS 2 interior camera improves low-light performance, the 2.5K STARVIS 2 rear camera captures more detail, PlatePix extends useful plate capture to the rear, and optional LTE provides remote monitoring.

Our favorite improvement, however, remains the waterproof rear camera.

For an SUV with dark factory privacy glass, being able to bypass that rear glass entirely can make a substantial difference. For a pickup truck, the ability to mount the camera outside opens up installation possibilities the older system simply did not offer.

Those are practical improvements rather than upgrades designed merely to make the specification sheet look better.

The Vantrue Nexus N4 Pro S takes an already impressive three-channel dashcam and improves some of the areas that matter most in everyday use. For drivers shopping for a premium three-channel setup today, especially SUV and pickup truck owners, the newer Pro S makes a convincing case over the original N4 Pro.
