New brand Jeland already holds 2.1% of the Russian market in August.

New car sales in Russia fall -6.5% year-on-year in August to 114,285 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 9.3% to 844,999. Homegrown behemoth Lada (-2%) manages to beat the market to 23.7% share, widening the gap with #2 Haval (-9.2%). Newcomer Tenet has stabilised above 10% share, reaching 10.6% in August vs. 10.5% YTD. Changan (-14.3%), Geely (-24.5%) and most strikingly Belgee (-43.5%) are all hit hard while Jetour (-9%) manages 3.6% share vs. 2.9% so far this year. Mazda (+358.9%) continues to surge at #8 while Toyota (+4.6%) is more modest but still up at #9. The event of the month is the arrival in the Top 10 of Jeland with 2.1% share. This is a new Chinese-Russian joint-venture assembling localised versions of Chery and Jaecoo crossovers at the former General Motors plant in Shushary, Saint Petersburg.

The Top 10 models are unchanged on last month. The Lada Granta (-17.4%) loses significant ground in first place, distancing the Haval Jolion (-5.6%) and the new Tenet T7. The Lada Vesta (-15.2%) also struggles while the new Tenet T4L and Lada Iskra repeat at their record rankings at #5 and #6 respectively. Outstanding performances by the Mazda CX-5 (+429.5%) and Lada Niva Travel (+22.3%).
