Gym chain to celebrate first Rosemount location

New Hampshire-based Planet Fitness will enter the Rosemount market Saturday.

The franchisor of affordable fitness centers will celebrate its new location at 3400 150th St. at 10 a.m. Saturday with a ribbon cutting ceremony, local snacks and giveaways, according to a company news release.

The 19,000-square-foot facility includes free weights, Olympic platforms, strength machines, plate-loaded bench presses and more than 64 pieces of cardio equipment. Free fitness training is included in all memberships, which start at $15 per month.

The new Rosemount location will be open 24 hours a day Monday-Thursday; until 9 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, according to the opening announcement.

Founded in 1992, Planet Fitness has over 20 million members across more than 2,700 locations. More than 90% of Planet Fitness clubs are owned and operated by independent business men and women.

Planet Fitness also will open its second Minneapolis location Saturday at 575 S.E. Ninth St. in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood, near the University of Minnesota campus.

Minnesota is home to roughly 37 Planet Fitness locations including in St. Paul, Roseville, West St. Paul, Apple Valley, Burnsville, Cottage Grove, Lakeville and Eagan, to name a few.
