Fed’s Cook declared second house as vacation home, Reuters says
A 2021 loan document reviewed by Reuters shows Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook declared an Atlanta home she purchased as a “vacation home,” appearing to contradict the Trump administration’s claims that she committed mortgage fraud.
The May 28, 2021, loan estimate was issued by a credit union to Cook weeks before she ultimately purchased the home. The document shows she told the lender that the property wouldn’t be her primary residence. That appears to contradict other documentation cited by critics in the Trump administration, two real estate experts told Reuters.
Cook sued President Donald Trump last month after he moved to oust her over allegations of mortgage fraud. The lawsuit has emerged as a major flash point in the growing clash between the White House and the Fed, which has resisted Trump’s demands to lower interest rates.
An appeals court asked for written arguments over the weekend before the Fed’s upcoming vote on interest rates, suggesting a decision as soon as Sunday evening.
