The Dacia Sandero is the most popular vehicle in Portugal in August.

12,991 new light vehicles found a Portuguese buyer in August, a solid 9.9% year-on-year improvement. The year-to-date volume is now up 8.2% to 154,566. Mercedes (+15%) beats the market to smnap the brands top spot off Peugeot (-18.9%) in great difficulty and down t o #4 for the month. This the first win from Mercedes since September 2023, and at 10.1% it reaches its highest share since September 2023 also. Dacia (+1.2%) advances one spot to #2 and an excellent 8.6% share vs. 7.7% so far this year. BMW (+19.6%), in great shape, concludes the podium with a share two percentage points above its YTD level at 8.3% vs. 6.3%. Citroen (+89.1%), BYD (+53.6%) and Volkswagen (+26.6%) lodge the best performances in the Top 10. Notably, at #10 BYD cracks the Top 10 for the first time (previous best #13 in August 2024) and breaks its share record at 3.6% (previous best 2.8% in December 2024).

Model-wise, Dacia manages a spectacular 1-2 with the Sandero (-5.1%) in first place and the Duster (-19.6%) at #2. This is all the more remarkable that both models lose ground YoY. Not as much as the Peugeot 2008 (-28.2%) in freefall but holding onto the #1 spot year-to-date. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+36.2%) is up 13 spots on last month to #4 while the BMW X1 (+104.9%) is up three to #5. Boosted by the new generation, the Citroen C3 (+407.3%) multiplies its year-ago volume by 5 and ranks #6. The Nissan Qashqai (+124.3%) also delivers a splendid performance at #9. Below, the Mercedes GLA (+67%) is up 22 ranks to #13 while the VW T-Cross (+56.6%) is up 19 to #15. The Fiat Grande Panda is the best-selling recent launch at #20.
