BOYS LACROSSE

Josh Haarmann scored four goals and teammate Cam McCarthy added a hat trick as St. John’s Prep opened the season with a 11-7 win over Acton-Boxboro in an eagerly anticipated matchup of two of the premier programs in the state.

Mikey Ferraro and Dexter Izzo each scored five goals as Bishop Feehan handled St. John’s (Shrewsbury) 14-4 in a nonleague tilt.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Joselyn Silva scored six goals and Madeline Reynolds and Meghan McCormack combined for 12 saves as Beverly defeated Algonquin 12-9 in a nonleague contest. … Chloe Puzzo, Victoria Pierro, Lia Beatrice, Fiona Keaney and Cecelia Tripp scored as Swampscott nipped Bishop Fenwick, 5-4.

BASEBALL

Lincoln Slade went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI and Hudson Cambal pitched five scoreless innings as Dennis-Yarmouth opened its season with a 9-1 nonleague win over Tantasqua.

SOFTBALL

Aly Toto drove in three runs and Grace Monagle homered as Austin Prep defeated Marianapolis, 10-4.
