Red Sox lineup: Rookie catcher to make team debut, Kristian Campbell in LF

ARLINGTON, Texas — Boston’s new backup catcher will make his Red Sox debut on Saturday.

Carlos Narvaez, acquired this past offseason from the New York Yankees in exchange for a pitching prospect, is set to start for the Red Sox in Saturday’s game against the Texas Rangers. Narvaez is a rookie with six games of MLB experience under his belt, but he earned the backup catcher job in camp thanks in large part to his advanced defensive acumen.

Saturday will bring a handful of other lineup adjustments too.

Rookie Kristian Campbell will start in left field, Jarren Duran will bump over to center field and Wilyer Abreu will start in right. Originally manager Alex Cora had indicated Abreu would need a day off after his quick ramp up in camp, but given that he’s gone 5 for 6 with two home runs to start the season, he’ll stay on the field and Ceddanne Rafaela will sit instead.

David Hamilton will start at second base and right-hander Walker Buehler will make his first start in a Red Sox uniform. Buehler will face off against Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle.
