Ticker: Bank of America marathon giving day breaks record; $2.1B Roundup weedkiller verdict
The Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program raised $1.87 million, the largest single-day charitable amount in the race’s history.
The fundraising record was set on Boston Marathon’s Giving Day last week, which encouraged runners and other supporters to seek donations for the 176 non-profit charities served by the program. Representatives from those beneficiaries who attended a celebration Thursday at Bank of America in Boston were joined by Miceal Chamberlain, the bank’s Massachusetts president, former Patriot Tedy Bruschi, Boston Athletic Association Chairwoman Cheri Blauwet, and former women’s champion Des Linden.
The 129th running of the marathon will be April 21.

$2.1B Roundup weedkiller verdict
A jury in Georgia has ordered Monsanto parent Bayer to pay nearly $2.1 billion in damages to a man who says the company’s Roundup weed killer caused his cancer, according to attorneys representing the plaintiff.
The verdict marks the latest in a long-running series of court battles Monsanto has faced over its Roundup herbicide. The agrochemical giant says it will appeal the verdict, reached in a Georgia courtroom late Friday, in efforts to overturn the decision.
The penalties awarded include $65 million in compensatory damages and $2 billion in punitive damages, law firms Arnold & Itkin LLP and Kline & Specter PC said in a statement. That marks one of the largest verdicts in a Roundup-related case to date.
