WCCO-AM has canceled its local programming on weekday evenings, including “The Lake Show with Henry Lake,” but not Minnesota Twins games.

The move comes after the talk radio station’s parent company Audacy Inc. cut 250 to 300 staffers across the country, according to the industry website RadioInsight.com. The site added: “We’re told that the majority if not all of the company’s national digital content team has been eliminated in the cuts.”

In a statement from an Audacy spokesperson, the company said: “Audacy has made workforce reductions to ensure a strong and resilient future for the business. We are streamlining resources to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving media landscape and to best position Audacy to continue serving listeners and advertisers with excellence.”

A graduate of Atlanta’s Morehouse College with a political science degree, Lake returned to his home state and taught in the Minneapolis Public Schools from 1997 to 2004 and spent the next two years as a transitions coordinator at Anoka Technical College. He began his radio career in 2003 and established himself as a knowledgeable basketball host on KFAN FM 100.3.

Lake left KFAN in 2013 for a five-year stint as midday host at AM 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City. He returned to KFAN in 2018 and jumped to WCCO the following year, initially to host a late-night show from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., or after Twins and Timberwolves games. He used the time to discuss sports as well as a host of other topics. More recently, he hosted “The Lake Show” from 6 to 9 p.m. The final episode aired Wednesday.

Based in Philadelphia, Audacy was founded in 1968 as Entercom Communications Corp. The company purchased WCCO from CBS Corp. in 2017. Entercom rebranded as Audacy in 2021. It’s the second largest radio company in the United States and owns more than 220 stations across 47 media markets.
