Two teens in Boston arrested for alleged assault, robbery in Macy’s: ‘Spat on an officer’

Two teenage boys were arrested Thursday on charges of assault and robbery of a victim in the Macy’s location at Downtown Crossing in Boston, Boston Police reported Saturday.

Officers Thursday afternoon responded to a reported assault in progress at 450 Washington St. The Macy’s loss prevention team told the cops a group of five minors kicked and punched a single victim multiple times, BPD said.

The officers were provided with a description of the group, and told they ran toward the Red Line station nearby. The cops said they saw one of the young boys at the Red Line stop and tried to speak with him, but he “initially refused to stop.”

When they caught up, BPD said, the 14-year-old suspect declined to identify himself and was placed in handcuffs and arrested.

The cops then spoke to the victim, who said he was using the restroom when the group walked in, the department said. The victim told the officers the group followed him around the store, began to videotape him, harassed him and stole his bag.

Following the alleged theft, the group allegedly began to attack the victim by punching and kicking him. The victim refused medical treatment at the scene.

The cops reviewed security footage and released photos of the suspects involved in the incident, Boston Police said. Canvassing the area, the officers said they spotted two teen boys matching the descriptions of the suspects.

One of the teens was “compliant with officers while the other became combative and refused to answer basic questions,” BPD said. The cop placed one 16-year-old boy in handcuffs, and he “spat on an officer,” the department said.

Both teen suspects were charged with unarmed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery. The 16-year-old was charged with an additional count of assault and battery.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court.
