Hutchinson Police Blotter for Dec. 9, 2012
Hutchinson Police Services reported the following incidents:
NOV. 22: At 1:23 a.m., police received a report of an intoxicated man passed out in a driveway in the 100 block of Fifth Avenue Southeast. Police are requesting charges of underage consumption through City Attorney Marc Sebora against the 20-year-old Hutchinson man.
At 7:28 p.m., Scott Salmela of Glencoe, driving a 1997 Chevrolet northbound on State Highway 15 crashed into the rear of a 2005 Toyota driven by Joshua Metcalf of Glencoe about 200 feet south of Denver Avenue. The collision pushed Metcalf’s vehicle into the rear of a 2005 Ford driven by Darielle Garcia of Brownton. The Salmela and Metcalf vehicles sustained severe damage; Garcia’s had light damage. Salmela was ticketed for allegedly failing to drive with due care. A 36-year-old woman passenger in the Metcalf vehicle was taken to Hutchinson Community Hospital by Allina Ambulance.
NOV. 23: At 7:18 p.m., officers went to a home in the 1300 block of Prairie View Drive Southwest looking for Clark F. Schwantes, 50, of Hutchinson. He was sought on McLeod County warrants, including a gross misdemeanor for failing to appear in court on an original charge of criminal sexual conduct and the other on disorderly conduct. He was booked and taken to the McLeod County Jail in Glencoe.
NOV. 24: At 1:44 p.m., a Hutchinson man reported that someone had apparently tampered with a 1983 Chevrolet Camaro he had stored for the past year at a home in the 400 block of Stoney Point Road. The key had been broken off in the ignition.
NOV. 25: At 11:40 a.m., Curtis A. Schlueter, 48, of Stewart turned himself in at the police station. He was sought on a Washington County warrant for allegedly failing to appear on an original charge of driving with unsafe tires. He posted $135 bail and was released.
At 3:02 p.m., a woman reported that her 2011 Jeep Liberty had been scratched while parked between 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside McDonald’s. Her son had the vehicle there while he was at work. Damage was estimated at $1,000.
At 4 p.m., a burglary was reported of a home and unattached garage in the 800 block of Jefferson Street Southeast. It is believed the incident took place between 11 p.m. Nov. 24 and 3:30 p.m. Nov. 25. Tools, a generator, sink and other items worth $2,600 were stolen. Damage to doors totaled $470.
NOV. 26: At 3 a.m., an officer on patrol in the area of Ranch Avenue Southeast found a vehicle parked near an abandoned farm site. The driver, Matthew L. Freund, 30, of Brownton, was arrested. During a search of the vehicle police found a suspected methamphetamine pipe, burnt marijuana residue and a synthetic urine kit. During a search of Freund, police found a plastic bag with a white crystal substance believed to the meth. Freund was arrested and taken to the McLeod County Jail. He has been charged by McLeod County Attorney Mike Junge with one felony count of controlled substance in the fifth degree – possession of methamphetamine.
At 7:08 a.m., a 2004 Pontiac driven by Adam M. Roberts, 25, of Hutchinson struck the driver’s side mirror of a parked 2002 Chevrolet pickup owned by Jerrold Lang of Hutchinson. The crash took place in the 400 block of School Road Northwest. Roberts’ vehicle had moderate damage; Lang’s light. Roberts was ticketed for alleged inattentive driving.
At 7:41 a.m., police were called to a report of the theft of items from a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am parked in the 100 block of Arch Street Northeast. While enroute, a citizen flagged down the officer and turned in a plastic bag with a wallet that had been found nearby. There was $300 damage to the car, because of a broken window, and about $277 was missing from the wallet.
At 12:58 p.m., a woman came to the police station and reported that sometime overnight someone had entered her unlocked 1999 Mercury Cougar while it was parked in the parking lot of 221 Freemont Ave. S.E. A black wallet with credit cards and from $300 to $500 in cash was stolen.
At 4 p.m., police went to the Bryn Gardd Dental Office, 945 Echo Drive S.E., in response to a crash. Jillynn M. Benage of Hutchinson had allegedly backed her 2003 Chevrolet Malibu into a 2007 Hydundai driven by Jesse J. Troska of Hutchinson, who was driving by behind Benage in the parking lot. Both vehicles sustained light damage.
At 10:42 p.m., a 2009 Volkswagen driven by Bradley Eastman of Hutchinson struck a deer while he was driving on Jackson Street Southwest. The car sustained minor front end damage. The deer ran off..
NOV. 27: At 3:20 p.m., a Hutchinson man reported two separate incidents. The first involved the theft of $577 worth of tools from his garage in the 200 block of Adams Street Southeast. The second was the theft of two ladders worth $160 from Elks Park restrooms where he had been doing work.
At 3:31 p.m., a 1998 Ford driven by Alexander Schlueter of Winsted was totaled after Schlueter made a left turn from State Highway 15 at Century Avenue and collided with a southbound 1993 Ford driven by Thomas Wilfahrt of Hanska. The Wilfahrt vehicle had moderate to severe damage. Schlueter was ticketed for alleged failing to yield. A passenger in Schlueter’s vehicle declined medical attention.
NOV. 28: At 2:07 p.m., a woman driving a red sports car left the Sinclair gas station, 640 State Highway 7 E., without paying for gasoline worth $35.43.
NOV. 29: At 2:10 p.m., Beverly Kosek of Hutchinson backed a 2003 Chevrolet out of a parking stall outside Liquor Hutch, 245 Washington Ave. E., and struck a 2011 Chevrolet driven by Sandra Hilk of Waconia. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage.
At 10:14 p.m., an officer on patrol recognized a vehicle in the area of California Street and Texas Avenue that the officer had attempted to stop the night before. The officer followed the vehicle to SuperAmerica and eventually arrested the driver and one of the passengers. The driver, William J. Rurup 51, of Hutchinson, has been charged with alleged misdemeanor driving after revocation of his license, second-degree driving while under the influence of controlled substances and second-degree refusal to submit to tests. The passenger, Ryan G. Luckhardt, 28, of Hutchinson was sought on several warrants, including two body-only warrants from McLeod County for probation violations and one from Redwood County for alleged contempt of court. He also faces potential additional charges of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance and giving police a false name and date of birth. He allegedly was recognized by a second officer as not being the person he identified himself as.
NOV. 30: At 2:39 p.m., a woman reported that her wallet had been stolen from her purse left in her unlocked 2005 Dodge van parked the day before in a lot off of Franklin Street, behind Main Street Antiques. The total loss was $45.
At 7:29 p.m., a woman reported that she had forgotten her purse in the center courtyard of Hutchinson Mall, 1060 State Highway 15 S., at about 6:30 p.m. Mall maintenance found it, but $80 in cash and a Wells Fargo debit card had been stolen.
DEC. 1: At 1:40 p.m., employees at Sinclair, 640 State Highway 7 E., reported that a man driving a silver sport utility vehicle left without paying for gasoline worth $57.
At 6:15 p.m., the owner of a 1996 Chevrolet reported that sometime the previous night someone had struck the drivers side of the vehicle while it was parked in the 700 block of Merrill Street Southwest. The vehicle may have been white.
DEC. 2: At 3:15 a.m., police were called to a report of a loud party in the 500 block of Lakeview Lane. Police were allowed inside and ended up arresting three people. Ryan Scott Montreuel, 20, of Hutchinson was sought on McLeod County warrants for allegedly failing to appear on an original charge of driving while intoxicated, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He also has been charged with misdemeanor providing false information to police and underage consumption. Jamel J. Hill, 18, of Hutchinson was sought on a McLeod County warrant for fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance and was charged with one misdemeanor count of underage consumption of alcohol. A 17-year-old Hutchinson girl faces a possible misdemeanor charge of underage consumption.
At 1:05 p.m., the owner of a 1999 Ford truck reported that sometime during the night someone had stolen a Garmin Nuvi 40 LM GPS unit worth $200 from the vehicle while it was parked in the 200 block of Hassan Street Southeast.
DEC. 3: At 9:52 a.m., a blue and yellow Specialized Rock Hopper bicycle worth $1,200 was reported missing from a detached garage in the 400 block of School Road Northwest. The bike is believed to have been taken stolen in September or October.
At 9:02 p.m., a 1996 Chevrolet driven by Tyler Bollin of Hutchinson collided with a 2012 Nissan driven by Jason Slepica of Hutchinson in the intersection of Second Avenue South and Main Street. Bollin was ticketed for allegedly failing to yield when he made a left turn from Second Avenue to go south on Main Street and struck the eastbound Slepica vehicle. Bollin’s vehicle sustained light damage; Slepica’s moderate.
