Bleess makes 62 saves in OT loss

It came in a tough overtime loss but Shakopee senior goalie Adam Bleess stole the show in a boys hockey game at Burnsville on Thursday last week.

The Sabers lost 3-2 in overtime to the Blaze but Bleess clearly was the star of the game.

Burnsville fired 65 shots at Bleess and he stopped 62 of them as he almost led the Sabers to the upset victory.

The Blaze fired 14 shots on Bleess in the first period but Shakopee led 1-0, courtesy of Sam Kreuser’s goal at 8:27.

The lead would grow to 2-0 at 2:38 of the second as Kreuser scored his second goal of the game with an assist to Thomas Schmid.

Burnsville was finally able to sneak a puck past Bleess at 10:33 of the second but Shakopee still led 2-1 after two periods.

After two periods, Burnsville was outshooting Shakopee 37-11.

In the third period, Tyler Smith tied it for Burnsville at 7:11 and the game was sent to overtime.

In overtime, Bleess continued his strong play as he faced 11 shots in the first seven minutes of the eight-minute overtime.

The 12th shot of overtime though got past Bleess as Burnsville scored with 34 seconds left to get the 3-2 win against Shakopee.

Burnsville’s goalie Josh Kenney made 19 saves for the Blaze.

Bleess and the Sabers didn’t have much rest as they were back on the ice for another South Suburban Conference game on Saturday at Farmington.

The Sabers lost 3-1 as Farmington scored twice in the third period to get the win.

Shakopee trailed 1-0 after the first period but at 5:20 of the second Schmid tied it up at 1-1 with the assist going to Dylan Pass.

In the third, Farmington’s Alex Trippel scored twice in a three-minute span to give the Tigers the 3-1 win.

Bleess stopped 31 shots in the loss while Farmington’s goalie stopped 19.
