Fred S. Scoggin, who recently retired from management of the Rex Hotel, will be honored by friends at an Appreciation Day dinner at the Rex next Sunday afternoon, April 12.
Winter quarter graduates of Bemidji State College who will receive their degrees at the annual commencement exercises at the college June 7 include Mrs. Marvin (Mary Lou) Pearson, Miss Evangeline Faith Francis, Paul (Sam) Johnson, Alton Shannon and Lanny Wayne Cyr.
Mel Millard, Laurel Dahl and Dorothy Johnson are all smiles over their personal highs for the bowling season. Mmes. Millard with 652, Dahl with 614 and Johnson with 602 all bowled over 600 for the first time this season.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Boe, Riverside Trailer Court, returned to their home April 1 following a four month holiday in the southern states.

Donald J. Maxwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Maxwell, 317 Fourth Ave., graduated recently from Michigan State University with a bachelor of science degree in packaging.
Falls Bronco tracksters picked their team captains on Monday and named Doug Plank and Dale Himes to head the thinclads this season.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Terry, 314 Eighth Ave., are parents of a daughter born this morning at Falls Memorial Hospital. The child, Charlene Lila, weighed 7 pounds and 4 ounces.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul W. Woodbridge, South International Falls, announce the engagement of their daughter, Evelyn Fern, to Daniel R. Stevens, Chisholm.

Gloria Holenko has joined the clerical staff of the Koochiching County Welfare Office. Miss Holenko, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Holenko, 1004 Eighth St., is filling the position vacated by Mrs. Arnold Kerr who resigned recently.
A son was born today to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Glennie, Island View Route, at Littlefork Hospital; 9 pounds, 2 1/2 ounces; name chosen, Alvin Blair.
Thieves last night threw a rock through a rear window of a Carson-Lupie grocery to gain entry to the store where they took some $4 in loose change. The store is Bennington’s Grocery, 103 1/2 13th St., operated by John Bennington. It was the fourth burglary in seven days at the border.
Mrs. James McReynolds, 915 1/2 Sixth St., was guest of honor at a stork shower in the home of Mrs. Gordon McKibbage, 909 Ninth St.
Miss Arlene Jornlin, freshman at Concordia College, arrived home to spend the Easter holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Helmer Jornlin, 1300 Ninth Ave.

Evelyn Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil F. Brown, was named valedictorian at Falls Senior High School. Second place honors go to Mary Buryk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Buryk. Miss Buryk’s class records entitle her to the position of salutatorian of the 1940 graduating group. Eugene Shull, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Shull, was judged the most outstanding male member of the class.
Francis Jackson, who has been assistant manager at the Falls theater, left this morning for Park Rapids where he has been transferred by the Baehr theaters.
Miss Kathleen M. Cobey, bride-to-be, was feted at another bridal shower at the home of Mrs. O.J. Masters, 520 Fifth St. Hostesses were Mesdames Masters, Dan Holler, Robert Gordon, Thomas White, Mary Malerich and James Drummond.
Mrs. Henry Tessier and little daughter, Shirley, left Saturday for Minneapolis, where the little child will undergo an operation at the University Hospital.
