Finland January 2025: Nissan Qashqai signs first win in almost 6 years

The Nissan Qashqai is the best-selling car in Finland in January.

It’s another disappointing month for new car sales in Finland at -12.8% year-on-year to 5,662 units. As a reminder 2024: was the weakest year in 30 years… Toyota (-42.5%) completely implodes but remains by far the most popular carmaker in the country at 15.5% share vs. a particularly high 23.5% a year ago. Volkswagen (+35.4%) defies the negative market to land at 10.1% share vs. 9.1% over the Full Year 2024. Skoda (-24.1%), Volvo (-20.1%) and Kia (-17.6%) all fall faster than the market to round out the Top 5. Nissan (+2.6%) and most spectacularly Ford (+80.3%) are the only remaining Top 10 members in positive. Below, Peugeot (+556%), Polestar (+246.7%), Dacia (+165.6%), Cupra (+115.4%) and Renault (+112.1%) stand out with surreal gains.

Over in the models charts, the Nissan Qashqai (+20.7%) surprises and takes the lead for the first time in almost 6 years: since April 2019. There was a time when the Qashqai led the annual Finnish ranking: it did so in 2012 and 2018. The Toyota Yaris Cross (-42.2%) is in great difficulty but manages a 2nd place with 3.4% share. The Toyota RAV4 (+16.3%) is up 13 spots on December to #3 while the Skoda Enyaq (+80.9%) is up one to #4. Poor year-on-year performances for the Volvo XC60 (-19.2%) and Toyota Yaris (-43.9%) but the two models remain close to their Full Year 2024 shares. In contrast, the Volvo V60 (+162.8%) and VW Tiguan (+169%) shoot up to #7 and #8 respectively. The annual #1 last year, the Toyota Corolla (-74.5%) craters to #9 for the month.
