Man dead in Hyde Park early afternoon shooting
A man is dead following an afternoon shooting in Hyde Park and a suspect is already in custody.
Boston Police responded to the 200-block of Garfield Avenue in Hyde Park at around 1:15 p.m. Friday following reports of shots fired in the area, according to BPD Commissioner Michael Cox, who spoke with reporters at the scene at around 3:30 p.m.
At the scene, officers found a man who authorities have yet to identify but who they believe to be in his 20s, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Boston EMS arrived and declared the man dead at the scene.
“Detectives were able to locate a suspect and place him under arrest,” Cox said.
He also assured the public that the initial investigation suggests this was a targeted shooting.
“We don’t believe this was a random event and we don’t have any reason to think that the neighborhood or community have anything to worry about further as a result of this,” Cox said. “We ask as always for the public’s help and support.”
