Patriots rookie Ja’Lynn Polk leaves game with head injury after more struggles

LONDON — Patriots rookie wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk left Sunday’s game against the Jaguars with a head injury and didn’t return to the 32-16 loss.

Polk posted to Instagram after the game on a black background of an ellipses and a peace sign before deleting the story. He was initially listed as questionable, and the Patriots did not update his status before the game ended.

Prior to Polk’s injury, he didn’t register a catch on three targets from Drake Maye. He was additionally targeted on a two-point conversion attempt from Maye and slipped and fell on the Wembley Stadium turf as the ball was in the air for an incompletion.

“We need more from Polk. We need more concentration,” head coach Jerod Mayo said. “He’ll be a good player in this league, just got to continue to work at it.”

Two of Polk’s three targets hit him in the hands before Jaguars defenders ripped them out.

Polk had two drops in each of his previous two games. He told MassLive.com last week that he believes he has the best hands in the league.

“(Have to) get him in the game early, I think that’ll help him,” Maye said after the game. “He’s a good player for us and we need him out there. So, it’s on me to kind of get him going.

“Throughout the week he’s always asking me to watch film and little things like that, throw after practice, he’s always there. We got to do more. Whatever we’re doing is not— do more.”

Polk played 34 of the Patriots’ 60 offensive snaps, per PFF’s in-game charting. Kayshon Bout (50 snaps) and Kendrick Bourne (37 snaps) finished with more playing time. Polk saw more snaps than K.J. Osborn (22 snaps) and DeMario Douglas (20 snaps). Douglas was dealing with an illness during the game.
