Man fatally shot in St. Paul’s North End identified as 42-year-old from Little Canada

A man shot and killed Monday night in St. Paul’s North End was a 42-year-old from Little Canada, police said Wednesday.

Police said they continue to investigate the circumstances of Nicholas Sletten’s homicide and no one has been arrested.

Investigators have not found a connection between Sletten’s shooting and the Saturday night shooting of another man, Riccardo Fleming, in the North End, said Sgt. Mike Ernster, a police spokesman.

Officers were notified about Monday’s shooting just before 9:30 p.m. when a 911 caller reported a man was shot at Jackson Street and Wheelock Parkway.

They found Sletten on the ground with gunshot injuries and provided first aid until St. Paul Fire Department medics took over and transported him to Regions Hospital, according to Ernster. Sletten was pronounced dead at the hospital soon after.

Police have also not made an arrest in the killing of Fleming, 28, of Walker, Minn. He was found shot about 10 p.m. Saturday near Woodbridge Street and Wheelock Parkway, just over half a mile from Monday’s shooting.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the homicides to call them at 651-266-5650.
