New aerospace and defense manufacturing center opening Tuesday in West Hartford

A new center dedicated to the development of thermal solutions for aerospace and defense companies is slated to open Tuesday in West Hartford.

Triumph Group will mark the opening of its Thermal Solutions Development Center in West Hartford with state and local officials, who welcome the creation of more than 100 jobs at the site.

“This lab will provide a vital service to our growing customer base as it allows for the complete test and performance mapping of new thermal products and system solutions,” said Justin Wolfanger, president of TRIUMPH Systems, Electronics and Controls, in a release announcing the expansion in February. “We are increasingly engaged with the development of new thermal system solutions with key customers and partners such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Sikorsky, Bell, and General Atomics.”

The state of Connecticut provided support for the expansion of the Triumph Systems Electronics and Controls business that was operating there, both by upgrading the power infrastructure at the West Hartford plant and by providing capital investments through the Department of Economic and Community Development Connecticut Innovations.

“Connecticut is a leader in aerospace manufacturing and precision engineering, and my administration is committed to expanding this strategic sector,” Gov. Ned Lamont said in the release. “Triumph has been part of Connecticut’s manufacturing industry for generations, and I am thrilled by their decision to invest and grow here.”

At the new state-of-the-art facility, Triumph plans to work on the design and development of advanced thermal systems for use in military and civilian aircraft.

Connecticut officials said the expansion reinforces the state’s role in the aerospace and advanced manufacturing industry.

“Connecticut is a worldwide center of innovation in aerospace manufacturing, and we want to help our existing companies grow, “said DECD Commissioner-Designate Dan O’Keefe. “This is an example of how DECD is working with strategic sectors to help innovative companies like TRIUMPH expand and succeed in Connecticut.”
