Scotch Magic Tape from 3M was announced as the inaugural winner of the competition at the 2024 Manufacturers’ Summit on Tuesday.

Invented in 1961, the matte tape can be found in classrooms, offices and homes.

The competition, hosted by the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce in partnership with BMO Bank, was launched to highlight the creativity and ingenuity of Minnesota’s manufacturers, according to the Chamber of Commerce.

“Minnesota is a state of innovation that has brought many remarkable and life changing products to market,” said Doug Loon, president and CEO of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. “The products in this year’s contest truly represent the best of what our state has to offer.”

Voting kicked off in early September with the top 64 products narrowed down from more than 100 submissions.

Products ranged from wool map blankets and rainbow freezer pops to an all-terrain wheelchair and floating wetland islands.

“This contest is not just about recognizing great products made in our state but also about showcasing the diverse and innovative spirit of Minnesota’s manufacturing sector,” Loon said.
