Patriots’ new starter struggles in first game replacing team captain
FOXBORO — David Andrews’ absence was felt in the Patriots’ 15-10 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday.
Overall, quarterback Jacoby Brissett faced his lowest pressure rate of the season in Week 5, but Andrews’ replacement, Leverett, led the team with eight pressures allowed, per PFF’s in-game charting.
Andrews is out for the season with a shoulder injury that requires surgery.
“Whenever we don’t win, even when we do win, it’s not good enough. Today wasn’t good enough. It starts with me. I gotta do better. I gotta put guys in better positions for success. I gotta put the offense in better positions for success.”

Leverett was flagged for a false start when he moved the football up before the offense was set. He also was penalized for holding.
“It’s just not setting ourselves back,” Leverett said. “Keying into that complimentary football, taking advantage of the positions we get put in, and just putting our best foot forward and keying into those things.”
The Patriots have two other centers on their practice squad in Bryan Hudson, who was elevated for Sunday’s game, and Jerome Carvin. The Patriots can elevate Hudson for one more game, but if they want him to be their backup or starting center beyond that point, they would have to sign him to the 53-man roster.
