We found the best gifts for every kind of mom

Can any amount of garden-scented bath soap or eggs Benedict in bed really begin to pay back what our moms have done for us? Not likely.

But we can sure try. And spoiling her a little at this time of year to let her know how much we appreciate all of it is half the fun.

Of course, moms come in all shapes, sizes, and dispositions. We moms don’t all have the same passions and interests, and we don’t all covet the same types of things.

So with that in mind, here are a few highly personalized, special gift ideas to let her know you not only appreciate all of her many years of mothering you — but also that you see her for all of her uniqueness.

The cooking mom: For moms whose love language is feeding others, the ability to share their caring through kitchen wizardry is a gift for both you and them. But rather than insist she do the cooking this holiday, just give her something she can nosh without any work — like a “Mom’s The Best Sweets Box” ($68.95 on williams-sonoma.com). It’s stashed with fresh fruits, salted caramels, hand-painted heart sugar cookies, chocolate-dipped pretzels, and candy hearts. And for when she does start cooking again, provide her some stylish protection with the Marimekko Pieni Unikko Apron ($58 on westelm.com).

The animal-loving mom: What’s the only thing that could make chocolate on Mother’s Day even better? Chocolates combined with her love of pets. Gift her a box of paw-shaped chocolates from the Be Positive Paw Prints ($14.50 on harborsweets.com). The delicious little confections come in milk, dark, and white chocolate, and a portion of the price goes to a very good cause — NEADS World Class Service Dogs (neads.org).

The gardening mom: If the sun’s out — and sometimes even when it isn’t — she’s outside planting, fertilizing, weeding, and trimming. But she can’t be out there all the time, so bring the garden inside to her with exquisite garden fragrances from The Flamingo Estate — a lush property in California teeming with pathways and orchards full of rosemary, sage, and tomato plants. The company’s Three Sisters Candle set ($186 on flamingoestate.com) are intensely perfumed in Climbing Tuscan Rosemary; Adriatic Muscatel Sage; and Roma Heirloom Tomato. The three transportive candles come in a beautiful custom gift box with a handwritten note. It’s the kind of gift that plays to mom’s love of nature and brings her bliss for months to come.

The overachieving mom: She rarely sits down and is usually overbooked. Coax her into relaxing with a gift certificate for the Deluxe Restorative HydraFacial ($295 on gretta.co) at my spa, Grettacole. It features a ReGen GF booster — a bioidentical growth factor full of peptides that’ll boost her collagen and elasticity, and leave her feeling brand new. Or, if at-home care is more her style, let her do it herself with a Eadem’s Cashmere Peel ($42 on eadem.co). The overnight treatment couldn’t be easier; she sweeps it on at night before bedtime, and lets its milky exfoliant fade dark spots, unclog and minimizes pores, reduce blackheads, and refine skin texture. All in a good night’s rest.

The helicopter mom: What to give the mom who needs to know how and what you’re doing as much as possible? The Echo Show 8 (3rd Gen, 2023 release) | With Spatial Audio, Smart Home Hub, and Alexa ($149.99 on amazon.com) is several gifts in one. Sure, it’s a smartphone hub with help on everything from playing music and setting reminders to controlling her lights. But most importantly, it’s a video calling device with high-quality sound and a 13 MP camera. So she can call and see you every time she misses you — and vice versa.

The outdoors-loving mom: After she’s done hiking, camping, fishing, and mountain biking, mom could use some rejuvenation. So give her a Soft Services Buffing Bar ($28 on softservices.com). The micro crystal exfoliant is perfect for areas that can use moderate-to-intense exfoliation — and it gets rid of all kinds of skin conditions that come from active outdoor work — from keratosis pilaris and ingrown hairs to rough, bumpy skin. It’s also a terrific way to slough off dead skin and excess keratin to reveal soft, new skin after each use.

The pickleball/tennis/golf mom: She’s out there on the court or course, giving it her all — so give her something cute and practical to wear that rises to the challenge. Athleta’s Ace High Rise 13 1/2 Tennis Skort ($55.20 on athleta.gap.com is made of recycled polyester with spandex in a super lightweight fabric with internal hem-grippers that keep everything in place during her workout. And it comes with three  pockets, so she won’t be looking around for her credit card after the game’s over.
