Ticker: North End to hold ‘large pizza rally’ to protest outdoor dining ban; Starbucks goes cold
While the rest of Boston kicks off the outdoor dining season, North End restauranteurs fed up with a ban on al fresco options will be hosting a “large pizza rally” on Hanover Street on Wednesday.
The rally is set for 3 p.m. at the entrance to the North End — at Hanover and Cross streets — and will feature the Roma band, along with speeches by supporters and restaurant owners.
“It is time for the city to do right by this working-class neighborhood. Boston is about inclusion and supporting small local businesses, this ban accomplishes neither of those,” said George Regan, spokesman for the North End Restaurant Group.
The “rally will unify the North End while exposing the truth about the misinformation being spread about the outdoor dining ban.
The rally will coincide with a new “Did you know…” campaign in which the North End Restaurant Group will dispel common misconceptions about outdoor dining.
Starbucks reports weaker-than-expected results
Starbucks on Tuesday reported weaker-than-expected sales in its fiscal second quarter as customer traffic dried up in many key markets.
The Seattle coffee giant said revenue for the January-March period dropped 2% to $8.6 billion. That was far short of analysts’ forecast of $9.1 billion. It was the first time since the end of 2020 that the company saw a drop in quarterly revenue.
Starbucks said its same-store sales – or sales at stores open at least a year – dropped 4%. Wall Street had expected a 1% increase, according to analysts polled by FactSet.
