Throwback Thursday
The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat – both came quickly for Rosie Ruiz, seen in this April 21, 1980 photo waving to the crowd after being announced the winner of the Boston Marathon’s women’s division. She received the laurel wreath from Mayor Kevin White’s wife Katherine, and the receiver medal from Gov. Edward J. King, second from left. Then the truth came out within days: Ruiz hadn’t run the whole marathon, only entering the race near the end. Glory revoked.
