South Africa March 2024: Nissan NP200 bows out in style (#2)

The Nissan NP200 has been on sale in South Africa for 16 years with only minor changes.

The South African new vehicle market is hit -11.7% year-on-year in March to 44,235 units, leading to a Q1 volume off -5.3% to 131,199. Exports crumble -27.1% this month to 24,161 and are down -4.9% year-to-dat eat 80,649. Toyota (-17.1%) and the VW Group (-15%) both fall even faster than the market but continue to dominate the manufacturers charts. Suzuki (+16.1%) and Nissan (+32.6%) perform extremely well at #3 and #4 respectively, with Chery (+1.9%) also up in the remainder of the Top 10. Isuzu (-3.9%) manages to limit is fall but Renault (-36.8%), GWM (-21.9%), Hyundai (-19.7%) and Ford (-19.5%) fall hard.

Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (-20.8%) keeps the lead with a round 7% share, but the event this month is the 2nd place of the Nissan NP200 (+90.8%) in runout mode as production stopped on March 31. The Isuzu D-Max (-8.5%) is up two spots on last month to #3, with the Toyota Corolla Cross (+11%) and Ford Ranger (-13%) in tow. The Nissan Navara (+134.3%), Hyundai Grand i10 (+42%) and Suzuki Swift (+14.8%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. Among recently launched models (<12 months), the Toyota Vitz ranks #16, the Suzuki Fronx #28 and the Suzuki Grand Vitara #37.
