The Renault Megane E-Tech breaks its ranking record in Denmark. 

16,874 new cars found a buyer in Denmark in March, a -6% year-on-year drop. The Q1 volume comes in at 36,940, down -7.6% over the same period last year. Surprisingly for an end of quarter (traditionally strong for Tesla), Toyota (+79.6%) overtakes the American EV maker (-53.1%) to snap the brands top spot for just 50 sales. Toyota is also #1 year-to-date vs. #4 over the Full Year 2023. Mercedes (+87.6%) also spectacularly defies the declining market and climbs three spots on February to land on the third step of the podium. Nissan (+104.3%) does even better at #6 (+9) with Citroen (+50.7%), Peugeot (+43.2%), Renault (+33.4%) and Volkswagen (+8.6%) also up below. BYD (+2141.7%) advances to #18 while fellow Chinese carmaker Xpeng lodges its first Top 20 finish of the year at #20.

The Tesla Model Y (-70.1%) crashes year-on-year but still dominates the models charts with 5.7% share. Tesla even places the Model 3 (+70.7%), reinvigorated by its  facelift, at #2. It’s an excellent third place for the Nissan Qashqai (+114.1%) up 15 spots on last month to #3. The Renault Megane E-Tech (+76.2%) is up to #4, a record ranking eclipsing the #8 it hit a year ago in March 2023. Below the Peugeot 208 (-5.2%) roughly following the market, the rest of the Top 10 all lodge spectacular gains. The Peugeot 2008 (+372.1%) is the most impressive ahead of the Mercedes C-Class (+196.9%), Citroen C3 (+116.7%), Toyota Yaris (+100.5%) and Audi Q4 (+97.4%).
