Red Sox lineups: Nick Pivetta to start finale against Athletics

Nick Pivetta took a tough-luck loss in his first start of the season, allowing one run over six innings with 10 strikeouts in the club’s eventual 1-0 defeat in Seattle this past Friday.

Wednesday the Red Sox will look to give the veteran a bit more run support as they attempt to finish off a series sweep.

Pivetta is set to take the mound against Oakland’s Ross Stripling (0-1, 7.20 ERA) in Wednesday’s series finale, which will start at 3:37 p.m. ET. The Red Sox will roll out most of their usual starting lineup, with rookie Wilyer Abreu swapping in for Tyler O’Neill in right field and Enmanuel Valdez for Pablo Reyes at second base to face the right-hander.

The Red Sox come in having won three in a row to improve to 4-2 on the young season. Boston is currently second in the AL East, one game behind the New York Yankees, and the Athletics are 1-5 and tied for last in the AL West.

Following today’s game the Red Sox will fly to Anaheim and have Thursday off before concluding their west coast swing with three games against the Los Angeles Angels.
