Limited Edition Legend: Own a Piece of History with the AGTZ
A daring collaboration between La Squadra and Zagato is revving up coachbuilding for a thrilling new era. Born within the hallowed halls of Zagato’s Milan workshop, the AGTZ Twin Tail emerges as a captivating fusion of art, engineering, heritage, and cutting-edge technology.
A Story of Two Souls
Andrea Zagato, whose grandfather established Carrozzeria Zagato in 1919, remarks, “As the automotive landscape evolves, there’s a yearning to revisit the past, a desire to reconnect with the iconic cars of the 1950s and 60s.” He emphasises the importance of preserving these automotive legends for future generations, stating, “Without understanding the past, you cannot invent the future.”
Inspiration from the Past
The A220, despite its undeniable cinematic allure, never quite achieved the racing success it craved. However, one car stands out. When the A220 fell short of its Le Mans glory in the late 1960s, its creators took a bold step, transforming its bodywork by carving off 30cm to create a shorter tail.
This sleeker design, embodied in Chassis #1731, proved its prowess on shorter circuits and rally stages. It secured podium finishes that cemented its place in automotive history. The AGTZ Twin Tail pays homage to this tenacious spirit.
A Modern Masterpiece
The AGTZ Twin Tail is a thoroughly modern GT car, unashamedly carrying forward the A220’s legacy with dramatic flair. It unites the expertise and global influences of La Squadra and Zagato, cloaking the iconic mid-engine A110 berlinette in a captivating new skin.
This unique design, a product of the combined talents of both entities, features a removable rear section. This offers the option of the longtail’s elegance or the shorttail’s muscular punch. Limited to a mere 19 units, production is underway, with orders swiftly filling. Start saving now, as the starting price is a cool £555,000 before taxes. Ouch!
Innovation Takes the Wheel
This 21st-century tribute reimagines coachbuilding in a bold and impactful way. The AGTZ Twin Tail seamlessly blends two designs into one, celebrating the longtail A220’s legacy while capturing the essence of the muscular shorttail. Unlike the past, the transformation is no longer destructive. The owner has the power to transform the car at their whim, with the removable longtail transforming their garage into an automotive art gallery when the shorttail mode is chosen. This pioneering vision propels coachbuilding into a future brimming with possibilities.
The Voices Behind the Vision
Andrea Zagato, CEO of Zagato: “Zagato has always been synonymous with Grand Touring coachbuilding, crafting vehicles that excel on the racetrack while offering everyday drivability and gracing Concours d’Elegance lawns with equal ease. This philosophy is the driving force behind the name ‘AGTZ’ and our project’s mission.”
Jakub Pietrzak, Founder of La Squadra: “The automotive industry is rapidly evolving. As technology advances, we find ourselves drawn to the past, seeking inspiration to propel new ideas forward. We stand at the precipice of a renaissance. Electrification intensifies competition, making it increasingly challenging to differentiate products solely on performance and driving dynamics. Design will take centre stage, offering a platform for artisan coachbuilders to showcase their unique creations and set bold brands apart.”
A Legacy Unfolds
Pietrzak concludes, “We pay homage to a legendary brand rich in heritage, one that successfully revived the iconic A110. With social media’s growing influence, I envision this car cruising the streets of Tokyo, gracing the hallowed grounds of Le Mans, and traversing the British countryside. However, I particularly yearn to see it grace the shores of Lake Como in May.”
