Ticker: Sneakers with flair; Emerson’s new president; Gannett to stop using AP
Sneakerheads with a flair for art can now rejoice.
Boston’s tech sneaker startup Endstate and the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) have partnered with Vibram, the “Rolls Royce” of footwear soles, to design a distinctive shoe “merging fashion with technology celebrating a major exhibition, the new South Korean exhibit, Hallyu! The Korean Wave.”
The custom-designed, NFC-enabled sneakers and apparel feature works from the Museum’s renowned collection of Korean art.
New president at Emerson
Emerson College celebrates the inauguration of its 13th President, Jay M. Bernhardt, Wednesday through Thursday with live performances, academic panels, and film and comedy festivals. The culmination of the event, the investiture ceremony, takes place Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Cutler Majestic Theatre.
Gannett to stop using AP
The media company Gannett, the nation’s largest newspaper chain and publisher of USA Today, said Tuesday it would stop using journalism from The Associated Press later this month, severing a century-old partnership.
The decision “enables us to invest further in our newsrooms,” Gannett spokeswoman Lark-Marie Anton said. With more than 200 outlets, the chain represents more newspapers than any other company in AP’s U.S. membership.
A memo from Gannett’s chief content officer Kristin Roberts directed the chain’s editors to stop using stories, videos and images provided by AP on March 25. The memo, obtained by The Associated Press, was first reported by The New York Times.
