BMW is the most popular carmaker in Switzerland for the 2nd month in a row.

18,521 new cars hit Swiss roads in February, up 7.7% year-on-year. This enables the year-to-date volume to tilt into positive at +0.4% to 33,757. 4×4 sales gain 11.4% to 9,537 and 51.5% share vs. 49.8% a year ago and are up 4.8% year-to-date to 17,578 and 52.1% share vs. 49.9% over the same period in 2023. Petrol sales lose -10.3% to 5,959 and 32.2% share vs. 38.6% and are down -12.9% YTD to 10,924 and 32.4% vs. 37.3%. Surprisingly diesel is actually up 7.5% to 1,731 and 9.3% share vs. 9.4% a year ago and up 5.9% YTD to 3,429 and 10.2% share vs. 9.6% in 2023. HEV sales soar 24.1% to 5,780 and 31.2% share vs. 27.1% in February 2023, and are up 11.6% YTD to 10,400 and 30.8% share vs. 27.7% in 2023. PHEV are more discreet at +3.9% to 1,753 and 9.5% share vs. 9.8% and ain 8.5% year-to-date to 3,335 and 9.9% share vs. 9.1%. Finally BEVs surge 26.8% to 3,295 and 17.8% share vs. 15.1% but gain only 4.1% YTD to 5,659 and 16.7% share vs. 16.2% in 2023.

In the brands ranking, BMW (+12.1%) brilliantly repeats at #1, managing a 5th ever monthly win (add  April 2020, November 2021 and April 2022). Skoda (+1.7%) remains in third place with 8.3% share, distancing a struggling Volkswagen (-19.1%). At #4 again, Mercedes (-12.8%) is also in trouble whereas Toyota (+23.4%) shines. Below a freefalling Audi (-28.9%), Tesla (+414.4%) delivers the performance of the month and climbs 10 spots on January to #7. It now ranks #8 year-to-date, equal to its FY2023 position. Hyundai (+47.4%) and Dacia (+17.2%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, Mitsubishi (+216.3%) and Fiat (+126.3%) stand out.

Over in the models lane, the Tesla Model Y (+310.5%) quadruples its volume year-on-year to reclaim the top spot it held over the past two Full Years. The Skoda Octavia (+78.5%) is bumped down to #2 despite a stellar year-on-year lift. It remains #1 year-to-date but not for long as the Model Y already lurks just 44 sales below. The Dacia Sandero (+24.2%) is up 10 spots on last month to land on the third step of the podium ahead of the BMW X1 (+49.8%) up 19 ranks to #4 and the Fiat 500 (+42.9%) up 33 to #5. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+36.5%) also vastly outpace the market growth rate. Notice also the Dacia Jogger (+65.3%) and Volvo XC60 (+88.8%) both in great shape.
