Facebook, Instagram troubles reported worldwide, Meta investigating

No, you’re not the only one having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram.

Hundreds of thousands of users around the world found themselves logged out and locked out of their accounts on Tuesday.

Facebook was the biggest culprit, with nearly 500,000 users reporting problems logging in or accessing the site and app just before 10:30 a.m. But that number significantly dwindled to under 60,000 about an hour later, according to outage tracker DownDetector.

About 50,000 outages had been issued regarding Instagram and another 10,000 for Facebook Messenger, CNN reported.

Facebook and Instagram are owned by tech giant Meta.

“We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” company spokesperson Andy Stone said in a post on X Tuesday.

Some users commenting on the issue via the DownDetector said Facebook wasn’t accepting their password and didn’t allow passwords to be changed. Comments came in from California, Texas, New Hampshire and Romania, among other locations nationally and internationally.

“I would advise NOT trying to log in or reset passwords – there may be some hack involved, and gaining access to millions of accounts as people try to log in could be the goal,” a user commented on DownDetector. “Wait until there appears to be an explanation, and reversal of the spike in problems, apparently global, at least in the U.S. Great Britain, and Singapore.”
