Taiwan February 2024: MG up to record third place, sales off -20% on Lunar New Year

MG is up to #3 brand in Taiwan in February, with the HS ranking at #4.

With the Lunar New Year falling in February this year, there was only 16 working days in the month and sales reflects this at -20% year-on-year to 26,267 units. The year-to-date tally is now up 5.1% to 71,088. Toyota (-5.8%) resists much better than the market to lodge a strong 28.8% share. It is followed by Lexus (-34.3%) in difficulty year-on-year as its February 2023 result was an all-time high share. The performance of the month is delivered by MG (+147.5%) completely defying the depleted market to reach a record 3rd place with 6.5% share. Mazda (-3.7%) is up from outside the January Top 10 directly to #7 while Hyundai (-6.5%), Nissan (-13.3%) and CMC (-15.1%) all gain market share vs. last year.

Model-wise, Toyota monopolises the podium with the Corolla Cross (-34.4%) #1 again despite a harsh year-on-year drop, followed by the RAV4 (+141.8%) up to its highest share in two years – since February 2022 – at 6%. The Toyota Town Ace (-0.4%) is stable and rounds out the podium. The MG HS (+53.7%) climbs further to a record 4th place ahead of the Lexus NX (-35.6%). The Toyota Yaris Cross confirms it is an instant blockbuster in Taiwan at #6, down two spots on last month. The MG ZS breaks into the Top 10 for the first time, up 5 ranks on December to #10. Notice also the Kia Sportage (+136.4%), Hyundai Tucson (+27.6%), Mazda CX-5 (+21.1%), Hyundai Custin (+15.4%) and CMC Zinger (+6.3%) all posting outstanding scores.
