Boys basketball

Trailing by one point late, Aiden Pires drained the game-winning triple at the buzzer to lift Catholic Memorial (12-1) to a 47-45 Catholic Conference win over Xaverian.

Brenden Andrade and Dantae Clarke scored 12 points each, while Preston Joia and Michael Barron had seven points apiece as Mashpee (7-8) beat Hull 50-37 in the South Shore League. … Matt Youngquist exploded for 41 points as Middleboro defeated Randolph 74-53. … Tyler Lennox poured in 15 points, while Jack Balzarini and Joshua Grimes recorded 14 points each as Carver downed Cohasset, 68-43.

Cade Furse erupted for 27 points and Eddie Chareas added a double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds) to fuel Manchester Essex (12-0) over Cape Ann League foe Hamilton-Wenham, 58-37.

Peter Kumar (17 points), Luke Lisciandra (14 points), Thomas Behrman (13 points) and Rowan Tracey (13 points) finished in double figures in scoring for Medfield (10-2) during a 70-57 Tri-Valley League victory over Dover-Sherborn.

Robert Fuccillo had the hot hand with 31 points for Minuteman (9-5) in a 74-67 Commonwealth Athletic Conference win over Nashoba. … Matt Breen knocked down 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to steer Shawsheen (8-3) toward a 65-48 win over KIPP.

Finn Bjork (21 points, 21 rebounds) and Brendan McDonald (17 points, five rebounds, five assists) put in outstanding offensive performances again, and Dom Taylor made four key three-pointers in the fourth quarter to propel Somerset Berkley (10-1) toward a 69-58 nonleague win over Durfee.

William Morman III (20 points, five three-pointers), Devon Reid (19 points, five three-pointers) and Alex Echevarria (14 points) took care of the majority of the scoring for St. Mark’s in a 73-68 Independent School League victory over Lawrence Academy.

Senior captain Evan Yakovonis drained 15 points, and sophomore Caleb Baker tacked on 14 points as Whitman-Hanson (11-2) qualified for the state tournament for a 16th straight season with a 59-55 win over Plymouth North. … Trevor Jones and Zach Falls tallied 16 points apiece, as Duxbury held on for a 59-49 win over Silver Lake. … Killian La Tanzi registered a double-double (19 points, 12 rebounds), and Noah Manning drained 18 points to lead Hingham during a 59-56 comeback victory over Marshfield.

In the South Coast Conference, Will Horton paced his team with 21 points, while Nathan Levesque (18 points, 13 rebounds) and Caiden Cyr (17 points, seven assists) also lit up the statsheet for Apponequet (8-3) during a 73-56 win over Dartmouth. … Mike Dankert scored 19 points, while Dom Quelle had 17 points and Leo Andrade and Nate Reynolds finished with 16 points each as Bourne defeated Wareham, 71-61.

Jake Fortier poured in a game-high 22 points, while Donel Kabongo Mutombo added 16 points as St. Mary’s (Lynn) (9-4) clinched at least a share of the Catholic Central League title with a 59-51 victory over Bishop Feehan.  … Tristan Rodriguez knocked down 35 points and came away with five steals as Archbishop Williams (6-7) defeated Cardinal Spellman, 58-42.

Dray Thielker led scoring with 20 points, Tyson Carter (16 points, seven rebounds, six assists) did a little bit of everything, and Troy Santos added 16 points for Taunton (10-4) in a 70-69 Hockomock League win over King Philip.

Devin Dellimargio scored 20 points and Brian Cloonan had 16, helping Needham to a 55-48 win over Wellesley in Bay State Conference play.

Isaiah Andino scored 21 points and supplied the winning assist to Nethaniel Clemente to lift Methuen (7-6) to a 58-56 Merrimack Valley Conference win over North Andover. Lennon Abreu De La Cruz (18 points) and Drew Eason (eight points) also played well for the Rangers.

Girls basketball

Devin Crofford scored 18 points, and Marlo Jumper chipped in with 10 points as St. John Paul II (11-3) defeated Wareham 45-33 in a nonleague matchup. … Emma Plante finished with 23 points and seven rebounds, pacing Case (9-5) during a 54-28 victory over Diman.  … CC Levrault (13 points, seven rebounds), Addison Taylor (11 points, three assists) and four other players scored for Apponequet in a 50-41 win over Dartmouth. … Maggie O’Connell tallied 13 points, while Julia Hargraves and Maddie Hargraves scored nine points each as Durfee (7-6) defeated Somerset Berkley, 42-31.

Ally Johnson (15 points, four steals), Bridget Devine (11 points, seven blocks) and Kathleen Murphy (10 points, five assists) all turned in clutch performances, as Blue Hills (9-2) coasted to a 40-18 victory over Tri-County in the Mayflower Athletic Conference.

Paige Meda (15 points), Raeghan Blake (10 points) and McKinley Wenzel (nine points) set the tone for Bourne (10-0) in a 62-39 South Coast Conference win over Seekonk.

Skylar Auth tallied nine points, while Emily Picher scored seven points and Steph Mercurio finished with six points as Tewksbury (6-5) doubled up Haverhill 40-20 in the Merrimack Valley Conference. … Lamees Alasaad finished with 14 points and five steals, while Julia Graham added 12 points to guide Dracut during a 44-27 victory over Lowell.

Ava Renneker (11 points) and Annika Martins (10 points) each scored in double figures to boost Wayland (4-7) to a 35-22 Dual County League win over Boston Latin.

Naya Annigeri and Izzy Kittredge put up 18 points each, while Tess Backe registered 12 points and seven rebounds as Medfield (12-1) bested Dover-Sherborn 62-46 in a Tri-Valley League contest. … Mackenzie Kaiser delivered a career-high 20 points for Westwood in a 61-52 win over Bellingham.

In the Catholic Central League, Cecilia Kay dominated with 37 points and 15 rebounds, and Bella Lopez-Marin added six points and six assists as Bishop Fenwick (11-1) routed Arlington Catholic, 74-28. … Ellie Jackson finished with 15 points, powering Archbishop Williams (6-7) during a 54-19 win over Cardinal Spellman. … Maddy Steele (22 points, five three-pointers), Julia Webster (14 points) and Charlotte Adams-Lopez (13 points, nine assists, six rebounds) powered the Bishop Feehan (10-2) offense, and Mollie Mullen (seven points, four steals) provided a spark also as the Shamrocks earned a 65-52 win over St. Mary’s (Lynn).

Camryn Collins (23 points), Kailey Sullivan (15 points) and Ava Hill (nine points) were the leading scorers for Foxboro (12-1) in a 59-49 Hockomock League win over Oliver Ames.

Vivian Schofield scored 20 points, and Ally Carpentieri netted 12 points as Stoneham won 50-37 over Burlington in the Middlesex League.

Shania Gardner had 15 points, while Liv McManus scored 14 points and Jenna Oman finished with 13 points as East Bridgewater (7-5) defeated Rockland 52-38 in South Shore League action.

Boys hockey

Upperclassmen led the way for Winchester (8-5), as senior David Strong scored twice, senior Jack Duncan dished a pair of assists and junior Thomas Casey added two more assists in a 5-3 Middlesex League crossover win over Watertown/Wayland.

Tre Nadeau and Jamie Valarelli each scored twice and picked up an assist, pairing with Luke Pellerin’s 21 saves to power Taunton (9-4-1) to a 7-1 win over Everett/Revere in nonleague play.

Wrestling

Braedon Goes, Boden Dormer, Victor Majias, Jimmy Lally, Ryan DeSouza, Jayden D’Ambrosio, Rani Haddad and Alex Bajoras went 2-0 as St. John’s Prep (31-0) defeated Ashland 58-15 and Central Catholic 43-31 to win the Commonwealth Cup.

Boys swimming

Nate Gabriel won the 100 freestyle (53.76) and was one of the winners of the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.39) as Chelmsford (9-2) defeated Andover 96-84 to clinch a share of the Merrimack Valley Conference title.

Boys cross-country

Phillips Academy junior Tam Gavenas was named the 2023-24 Gatorade Massachusetts Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year. Gavenas is the first harrier from his school to earn the distinction.

Gavenas took bronze at the national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships this past season, clocking a time of 15:16.6 to earn First Team All-America honors. Gavenas, who took second at the NEPSTA Championships with a personal-best time of 15:06.0, placed seventh in the featured Eastern States Championships at the Manhattan Invitational. He also took fourth at the Foot Locker Northeast Regionals in 15:07.0.
