Four Red Sox named to MLB Pipeline Top 100 Prospects list
Earlier this month top Red Sox prospects Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, Kyle Teel and Ceddanne Rafaela were each named to Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects list. Friday night the four were honored again, this time as part of MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects list.
Mayer led the way at No. 15, Anthony came in at No. 24, Teel ranked No. 40 and Rafaela was No. 76. Mayer and Anthony were both in roughly the same place as Baseball America’s list, which had them at 14 and 21, respectively, and Teel and Rafaela were viewed much more favorably. Baseball America had Teel 22 spots worse at 62, while Rafaela was barely in their Top 100 at 94.

The fact that Mayer remains inside the top 20 on both lists despite an injury-plagued 2023 is highly encouraging, an acknowledgement by the industry of his talent despite what was effectively a lost season. Teel’s top 40 placement is also notable given that he was drafted less than a year ago and to this point only has about two months of professional baseball under his belt.
Mayer, Anthony and Teel are all expected to start the season in Double-A Portland, while Rafaela should have an opportunity to compete for a spot on the big league roster.
