Chicago Bears are reportedly hiring Seattle Seahawks assistant Kerry Joseph as their new quarterbacks coach
The Chicago Bears are hiring Seattle Seahawks assistant Kerry Joseph to be their quarterbacks coach, NFL Network reported Friday morning.
The news comes on the heels of the Bears this week announcing the hire of offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, who worked with Joseph in Seattle. Waldron and Joseph now will be charged with developing the Bears quarterback in 2024, whether that be three-year starter Justin Fields or a quarterback the Bears draft with the No. 1 pick.
Joseph, 50, was the Seahawks assistant quarterbacks coach for two seasons. Before that, he was their assistant wide receivers coach in 2021 and an offensive assistant for running backs in 2020. Waldron and Joseph helped guide quarterback Geno Smith in 2022 when he was named the Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year.
Joseph will serve as the quarterbacks coach for the American Team at the Senior Bowl next week.
He replaces Andrew Janocko, whom the Bears fired along with offensive coordinator Luke Getsy earlier this month after the team’s passing offense ranked 27th in the NFL with 182.1 yards per game. The Bears still need to hire a wide receivers and running backs coach to fill out their offensive staff. They are also interviewing defensive coordinator candidates.
Before his time with the Seahawks, Joseph was the passing game coordinator and running backs coach at Southeastern Louisiana in 2019. He began his coaching career at McNeese State, where he was the co-offensive coordinator for three seasons and worked with the wide receivers and quarterbacks.
Joseph was a quarterback at McNeese State, but moved to safety in the NFL. He played in 56 games over four seasons with the Seahawks. He also played quarterback in the Canadian Football League and NFL Europe.
On Tuesday, the Bears officially hired Waldron, who was the Seahawks offensive coordinator for three seasons after four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams.
