Minnesotan Cup, Vinterfest on tap this weekend in Scandia

This year’s Minnesotan Cup adult hockey tournament in downtown Scandia will feature 14 teams and 200 players.

There will be nonstop hockey from 5-10 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. Saturday “until the end of the 10 p.m. championship game,” said Corey Roberts, tournament organizer.

Players this year will range in age from 19 to 50, Roberts said. “A lot of these guys circle the date on their calendars,” he said. “This is year 10 for us so it’s become a tradition for Scandia and surrounding communities.”

The outdoor tournament is held at Wojtowicz Skating Park in downtown Scandia

Proceeds from the tournament will go toward upkeep of the skating park, Roberts said.

The tournament coincides with Vinterfest, Scandia’s annual winter festival. Events include a rinkside hospitality tent, pancake breakfast, medallion hunt, kubb tournament, fireworks and more.
