After 20 years in office, State Rep. Patrick Garofalo will not seek re-election

State Rep. Patrick Garofalo announced Tuesday he will not seek re-election this November.

Garofalo, a Republican representing Farmington, was first elected in 2004 and says he has advocated for affordable clean energy, reducing the costs of government, promoting economic development and pursuing smart energy policies.

“I am grateful for the trust and responsibility that the citizens of Farmington and the surrounding areas have placed in me since 2004,” Garofalo said in a news release. “However, after 20 years of public service, it is time for me to step aside and find other ways to engage in policymaking in Minnesota.”

Garofalo has served as chair of the House Education Finance committee and of the Job Growth and Energy Affordability Policy and Finance committee. Most recently he was the Republican lead on the House Ways and Means committee.

Garofalo will serve out the remainder of his term through 2024.
